Introduction
The Optical Column department in Veldhoven develops optical metrology systems for chip manufacturing. In this internship you help improve how we monitor and understand optical performance. Your work supports better overlay measurements and higher yield for customers. You will collaborate with experienced engineers and architects. You will turn complex data into insights that guide design decisions.
Your assignment
You will analyze optical performance data from metrology systems and link findings to design choices. You will create simple, reliable tools that transform raw data into clear information. You will test hypotheses through structured experiments or simulations. Your main responsibilities will be:
Analyze system data to quantify optical performance and stability.
Build tools in MATLAB or Python and create easy-to-read dashboards.
Trace behavior to relevant optical design specifications and key parameters.
Formulate and test hypotheses using design of experiments or simulations.
Propose practical design improvements based on evidence and trade-offs.
Present results, visualize trends, and document methods and outcomes.
Work closely with domain experts to refine questions and validate insights.
This is a bachelor's/masters regular internship for minimum 6 months,
minimum 4 days per week (2-3 days on-site). The start date of this internship is as of September 2026.
Your profile
To be suitable for the internship, you:
Are pursuing a bachelor's/master’s degree in physics, optics, electrical engineering, or optical engineering.
Have knowledge of optics, including ray tracing and modeling optical systems.
Have experience with MATLAB or Python for data analysis and visualization.
Are analytical and proactive, and you test ideas with clear reasoning.
Are collaborative and communicate clearly in English, both spoken and written.
Other requirements you need to meet:
You are enrolled at an educational institute for the entire duration of the internship;
Attach your cover letter with a clear motivation why you are interested in this internship assignment in particular;
You need to be located in the Netherlands to be perform your internship. In case you are currently living/studying outside of the Netherlands, your CV/motivation letter includes the willingness to relocate.
If you are a non-EU citizen, studying in the Netherlands, your university is willing to sign the documents relevant for doing an internship (i.e., Nuffic agreement).
