WRI India’s Energy Program focuses on facilitating India's transition to clean energy by enhancing energy access, promoting energy efficiency, and ensuring reliable energy for health, livelihoods, and education, particularly in rural areas. We collaborate with policymakers, national and state ministries, companies, utilities, regulators, finance, and development institutions to secure a clean energy future for everyone.
WRI India is seeking an intern for its work on energy for equitable development. The Energy for Equitable Development pillar supports access to sustainable, affordable, and reliable energy for development services in rural and underserved areas in Assam, Jharkhand, Mizoram, and Nagaland.
The role focuses on research, engagement, and analytical work related to clean energy interventions in the livelihoods sector. It involves collecting and synthesising both qualitative and quantitative data through literature reviews, secondary research, and expert consultations. The position offers an opportunity to contribute to emerging areas such as integrating decentralized renewable energy (DRE) as an enabler for rural development, model solar villages, and climate-resilient agriculture, while generating new knowledge and insights into the energy and livelihoods sector.
What you will do:
The intern will undertake a range of responsibilities as listed below.
Conduct secondary research and expert consultations on topics at the intersection of energy, agriculture, minor forest produce, non-timber forest produce, rural livelihoods, and socio-economic development.
Map and analyse key organisations and stakeholders in the energy sector and their engagement in rural livelihoods.
Support research and analysis of energy-dependent livelihood/value chain interventions related to DRE-powered rural livelihoods, model solar villages, and climate-resilient villages
Develop dashboard for data on livelihoods from the various partner development institutions using different tools.
Strengthen research insights through literature reviews and validation consultations in collaboration with the project team.
Support in drafting blogs, articles, and communication materials to disseminate the Energy Program’s research.
Engage with stakeholders and contribute to ongoing project activities and support capacity-building and knowledge-sharing initiatives as required.
What you will need:
Master’s degree (pursuing or completed) in Energy, Economics, Environment, Climate Change, Development Studies, or related Social Sciences.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, along with strong teamwork and collaboration skills.
Excellent writing, analytical, and communication abilities.
Familiarity with research methods and tools such as PowerPoint, Canva, Adobe InDesign, Asana, Excel. or similar platforms are preferred.
Experience in quantitative and qualitative data analysis is an advantage.
Understanding agriculture, rural livelihoods, equity, and the role of energy access and governance in socio-economic development is desirable.
Duration
The internship will be for 2 months and extendable for a further 1 month based on availability and requirements.
Stipend: 25,000 INR/month
Location: Ranchi, Jharkhand (preferable), New Delhi/Bangalore
