About the Role

The Detroit Lions currently have an opening for a Production Intern. Reporting to the Production Manager, the Production Intern will be responsible for supporting media content for all Detroit Lions content platforms. This will include videography, editing and overall production of engaging video content for the team’s digital properties as well as facilitation of ongoing media availability sessions.

The Production Intern is a season-long role supporting the 2026 football season, with an anticipated end in January 2027, with potential for post-season extension. Candidates will need to be able to work 5 days per week plus some weekends. Due to the unique nature of this position, the candidate must be able to work extended hours during the NFL season and training camp, which will include working on nights, weekends, and holidays.

This position is based in the Meijer Performance center in Allen Park, MI, but will also require travel to Ford Field and various off-site locations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (including, but not limited to):
The Production Intern will have daily responsibilities including, without limitation, the following:

  • Capture, edit and assist in production of content on deadline for all team digital and social platforms
  • Editing will include integration of graphic elements, music, and sound effects
  • Upload/post finished product to the team’s digital properties and social media profiles and distribute certain projects to media outlets using our File Transfer Protocol
  • Collaborate with Content Producers and Team Reporter to deliver impactful pieces of content to help reach the department’s overall annual content goals across all platforms
  • Translate high-level ideas from project owners and convert same to production treatments
  • Assist in tagging and organizing video for team’s digital asset management system
  • Stream and record press conferences during in-season weeks as well as after games
  • Edit within and deliver projects in various aspect ratios, resolutions, and frame rates
  • Take video equipment out into the field to capture and create compelling video packages that recap our community efforts and collaborations with partners
  • Film video and capture audio during live football action in practice and gameday environments

NONESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Performing other duties as assigned
  • Will adjust work schedule to meet departmental demands
  • Will keep appropriate information confidential
  • Will accept other responsibilities and duties required by the supervisor consistent with the objectives and essential functions of this position. Such responsibilities shall be incorporated into the position description if they are ongoing.

 QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Broadcast Production, Communications or related field
  • Experience in video production, sports or news environment with a strong knowledge of the game of football
  • Proficiency with media editing software; including Adobe Premier, Final Cut, Adobe After Effects, Avid, CS5
  • Strong video editing and videography skills required
  • Motion graphic animation experience encouraged but not required
  • Understanding of video encoding, codecs and formatting projects for appropriate channels
  • Proficient at posting content to various websites (CMS)
  • Evidence of creativity and innovation in developing project and story ideas
  • Evidence of highly developed verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge and demonstration of editorial judgment and journalistic ethics
  • Demonstrated strong organization and planning skills with the ability to manage multiple projects
  • Ability and willingness to work flexible and non-traditional schedules, including evenings, weekends and holidays in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience operating multiple types of HD cameras is required
  • General understanding of NFL rules, teams, players and culture is required
  • A reel (YouTube or Vimeo) that shows you can manage a project from start to finish
  • Understanding of professional etiquette and discretion when working with privileged information and high-profile individuals
  • Will adjust schedule as needed to meet work goals and time constraints, including working nights, weekends, during training camp and holidays, as NFL football schedule directs
  • Must possess a valid Driver’s License and a good driving record
