Job Description

INTERNSHIP SUMMARY:

This internship aims to enhance the candidate's chemistry laboratory skills, ability to solve problems, and work with others to facilitate daily lab tasks as needed.

The Laboratory Intern will collaborate with the lab manager as well as other managers to understand the functions of the internship. Responsibilities will vary based on workload, with a primary focus on basic lab testing of PH, BTUs, flash point, water content, and other lab functions as needed.

INTERN RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform Pensky Martin flash point test as well as basic pan test for flash
  • Test PH with a probe and PH paper
  • Test water content with Carl Fischer Titraiter
  • Test for BTUs with calorimeter           
  • Test for heavy metals with an ICP
  • Learn data entry in Clean Earth’s Core system
  • Review existing Standard Operating Procedures for knowledge of the lab as well as reviewing them looking for any inefficiencies.
  • Creating Standard Operating Procedures for any new tasks as needed.
  • Assist with other projects as assigned

Qualifications

WORK HOURS and PAY:

  • Full-time (Monday to Friday) in office, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • 8 Weeks (June 1- July 31st)
  • Hourly Rate: $20.00

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Ideal candidate would be a college junior or senior who is actively pursuing a degree in Chemistry or related field.

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:

  • High proficiency in MS Office Suite
  • Ability to navigate multiple systems to research and find information
  • Interpersonal skills with strong written and verbal communication
  • Must possess a high level of motivation and excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to use discretion and maintain confidentiality
  • Above average spelling and grammar skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • High level of organizational ability and ability to multi-task
  • Professional demeanor
  • Ability to be proactive and work independently
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines
  • Detail-oriented with good analytical skills
  • Regular and predictable attendance
