About the Role

About the Internship

The PATH Track Intern will be working with the Track Technical Support Group which is in charge of the development and maintenance of the PATH Technical Detail Drawings and Specifications as well as Track Designs pertaining to the PATH Track Infrastructure.  The group works directly with the Track Maintenance Group to maintain and upgrade the Track Infrastructure.  Our combined focus is achieving a state of good repair to the track ties, running rails, 3rd rails and other pertaining track components. 

Responsibilities

  • Work on and support Track Development Project that is currently the focus of the Track Support Group
  • Update the PATH special trackwork spare parts inventory which includes locating, measuring and confirming the current stock in C Yard and Harrison Yard
  • Review and comment on current PATH construction submittals including contract drawings, estimates and specifications.
  • Develop and create PATH Track standard detail drawings
  • Develop and create PATH Track technical specifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Enrollment at a college or university at the time of the internship
  • Major in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and AutoCAD.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in the field of track engineering.
  • Interest in field work with hands on approach to developing workable solutions.

Internship Details

  • The start date is expected to be on Thursday, May 28, 2026
  • This internship will require 36.25 hours per week during the summer, then more flexible hours during the school year
  • In accordance with Port Authority policy, this position permits interns to work remotely a maximum of one day per week. In person collaboration is essential to how the Port Authority conducts business and regular in-office days or team collaboration days may be required depending on business needs. Some internships may require interns to be fully in-person.

Compensation & Benefits

  • The hourly rate range is $21.85 to $31.22 (the exact rate will be determined by internship type and rising school year)
