Overview

Looking to build a portfolio of meaningful, published work—not just class assignments? Animal Friends is seeking a Copywriter Intern to join our Communications team and help craft compelling, mission-driven storytelling across digital, print and media platforms. This role is designed for strong writers who are ready to contribute ideas, refine their voice and see their work reach a real audience.


Responsibilities

  • Write and edit engaging, on-brand copy for social media, email campaigns, website content, print materials and press releases
  • Develop messaging and creative concepts for adoption promotions, fundraising campaigns and special events
  • Contribute to long-form storytelling, including feature articles and campaign narratives
  • Proofread and refine content to ensure clarity, accuracy and consistency in voice and tone
  • Collaborate with designers and team members to bring campaigns to life

Requirements

  • Student (18+) in communications, journalism, English, marketing or related field
  • Strong writing portfolio demonstrating versatility in tone and format
  • Excellent editing and proofreading skills with close attention to detail
  • Ability to adapt voice for different audiences, platforms and campaign goals
  • Familiarity with AP style (or willingness to learn quickly)
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and take initiative on projects
  • Creative thinker who can both generate ideas and execute them effectively
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with a diverse team
  • Comfortable around dogs, cats and rabbits
  • Genuine interest in Animal Friends’ mission

Additional Details

  • Weekday schedule, with occasional evenings/weekends for events
  • Local travel may be required; reliable transportation preferred
  • This is an unpaid internship; no housing or travel stipends are provided
  • Academic credit may be available depending on your college or university

Please note this is an unpaid internship. Animal Friends does not offer stipends for housing or travel. Students are encouraged to apply for resources outside of Animal Friends to support their internship as there are no internal sources of support available unless specifically listed.


Interns can receive academic credit from their university or college for their internships and many U.S. colleges and universities will recognize academic work performed while interning with Animal Friends.
