About The Company
M13 is an early-stage (seed and Series A) venture capital firm that invests in visionary founders building disruptive software businesses. Established in 2016 with offices in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and New York, we are a full-stack partner that brings a deep bench of full-time operators to help founders outperform and build category-defining companies. Our Propulsion model helps founders execute faster and with less capital towards better outcomes, with 3x people on our Propulsion team for every one investing team member. Our portfolio includes more than 200 direct investments, with 25 exits to date. M13 has seeded seven companies and been in the Series A of five others that went on to achieve unicorn status. Messier 13 (or M13) is one of the brightest star clusters in the northern sky. It’s full of remarkable individual stars, but when those stars come together, they create something that’s truly greater than the sum of its parts—inspiring the M13 philosophy of “brighter together.” We’re proud that M13 has been awarded as a Built In Best Place to Work in both LA and NYC multiple years running.
About the Role

Founded in 2016 with offices in Los Angeles (HQ), New York, and San Francisco, M13 is an early-stage (seed and Series A) venture capital firm that invests in visionary founders building disruptive software businesses. We are a full-stack partner with a deep bench of full-time operators to help you scale efficiently and build category-defining companies.

We’re seeking an Investment Summer Associate to join M13 for the summer at our NYC office and help M13 source and evaluate the next generation of AI-native founders emerging from leading Northeastern universities such as Columbia, MIT, Harvard, and beyond. This internship is ideal for rising undergraduate juniors or seniors.

Entrepreneurs are building earlier and younger than ever before. This internship sits directly within the Investment Team and focuses on expanding our access to technical builders at the forefront of AI and emerging technologies. You’ll help us identify exceptional people and companies early, support diligence on frontier AI ideas, and contribute to shaping M13’s perspective on next-generation technology shifts.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Work closely with the Investment Team to source high-potential founders and companies coming out of universities in the northeast

  • Build relationships with technical students, builders, and entrepreneurial communities

  • Help us diligence new ideas at the forefront of AI technology

  • Engage with campus AI clubs, hackathons, and startup ecosystems to expand M13’s early access pipeline

  • Track and evaluate opportunities aligned with M13’s investment theses

  • Contribute to developing internal perspectives on emerging AI trends and generational technology shifts

This role blends community-building, sourcing strategy, and early-stage investment exposure.

Key Deliverables

This internship’s core project centers on designing and executing a high-impact campus initiative, such as a hackathon, pitch day, AI-builder event, or something similar that strengthens M13’s presence within key university ecosystems.

The goal is not just to host an event. The objective is to:

  • Design and execute a founder-focused campus event aligned with M13’s investment themes

  • Engage university entrepreneurial communities, AI clubs, and technical networks

  • Track and evaluate participants through a sourcing lens

  • Create a repeatable sourcing framework for early-stage founder discovery

What You’ll Gain

  • Direct exposure to venture capital sourcing and founder evaluation

  • Insight into how investment theses translate into pipeline-building

  • Experience building founder relationships before companies formally raise capital

  • Understanding of how VCs think about long-term relationship development

  • Hands-on experience building strategic initiatives and supporting diligence within a venture firm

  • Close collaboration with experienced early-stage investors

What You’ll Bring to the Internship

  • Currently enrolled full-time in an undergraduate program as a rising junior or senior

  • Strong interest in venture capital, startups, and entrepreneurship

  • Technically inclined - this can mean you have a CS background, vibe code in your spare time, or are generally curious about AI and emerging technologies

  • Social, well-networked, and “in the know”. High EQ is a must

  • Ability to independently drive a project from concept through execution

  • Strategic thinking around sourcing and pipeline development

  • Able to work from our NYC office from Monday, June 15 - Friday, August 14, 2026

  • Strong networks in NYC or Boston (able to spend the summer in NYC while maintaining strong ties to schools in the Boston area)

  • Curiosity, ownership, and a low-ego, team-oriented mindset
