About The Company
Ranked LinkedIn Top Startup 2025 | Electric Regional Aviation VÆRIDION is transforming regional air travel with the Microliner, a 100% electric aircraft designed for clean and affordable mobility on regional and underserved routes. Headquartered in Munich, with a subsidiary in Delft, we are developing an eCTOL aircraft that carries up to 9 passengers over 400 km under IFR conditions, meeting the operational and sustainability goals of regional airlines. The clean-sheet design features a glider-inspired wing with integrated modular batteries and a multi-engine, single-propeller propulsion system. The result? The most energy-efficient aircraft in its class. No science fiction, just real, achievable, zero-emission travel before 2030.
About the Role

Your mission

As Working Student Mechanical Design Engineer – Propulsion Battery System (all genders) you will join VÆRIDION’s Technology division within the Mechanical Design & Integration team and support the development of the propulsion battery system for VÆRIDION’s CS-23 all-electric aircraft.
This role focuses primarily on supporting the mechanical design and development of battery packs, including structural components, enclosure features, internal support structures, and integrated mechanical hardware. You will contribute to design activities, CAD development, prototyping, and testing while gaining hands-on experience in the development of aerospace battery system hardware.
Working closely with engineers across the Mechanical Design & Integration team, you will also collaborate with HV Electrical Systems, Airborne Electronics, Thermal Systems, Structures, Production, and Testing to help deliver mechanically robust, thermally safe, and manufacturable propulsion battery system hardware.
Your work will directly support the propulsion battery system that underpins VÆRIDION’s mission to bring electric flight to regional aviation.

Your Day-to-Day

  • Support the mechanical design of propulsion battery pack hardware, including enclosure components, structural elements, internal supports, retention features, mounting interfaces, and service features.
  • Create and update 3D CAD models, part drawings, and design documentation for battery pack components and assemblies.
  • Support the integration of electrical and electronic hardware into battery pack assemblies, including connector mounting, harness support features, routing provisions, and installation details.
  • Assistin the development of thermal runaway mitigation hardware, venting concepts, ducting solutions, and other mechanically integrated thermal safety features in collaboration with the Thermal Systems team.
  • Support materials and processes activities includingselectionand evaluation of metals, composites, joining methods, sealing technologies, and manufacturing approaches.
  • Conduct engineering analyses to support design activities, including Finite Element Analysis (FEA)andbasic structural or thermomechanical studies.
  • Participate hands-on in prototype builds, test article preparation, assembly activities, and development testing.
  • Support coordination with internal teams, suppliers, manufacturers, and testing partners for design, fabrication, and test activities.
  • Help document design iterations, test observations, and engineering results to support ongoing hardware development.

Your profile

  • Currently studying Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Strong interest in mechanical design, battery systems, and aerospace hardware development.
  • Experience with CAD software such as SolidWorks, CATIA, Siemens NX, or similar.
  • Basic understanding of mechanical design principles, engineering drawings, and integrated mechanical assemblies.
  • Basic experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) tools such as Abaqus, Ansys, COMSOL, or similar is beneficial.
  • Familiarity with materials and processes, including metals, composites, joining methods, additive manufacturing, or sealing technologies.
  • Interest in prototyping, manufacturing, and testing.
  • Structured and independent working style with strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary engineering environment.
  • Fluent English language skills are essential; German language skills are beneficial.
