Position Purpose

The 12-month Nurse Residency and Student Nurse Internship Programs at Mercy Medical Center in Springfield, MA, are established under Massachusetts Chapter 88 of the Acts of 2024, allowing eligible senior nursing students and recent graduates to practice nursing while preparing for the NCLEX and completing licensure.

Mercy also offers a Student Nurse Intern pathway, enabling final‑semester nursing students to begin working clinically with a guaranteed transition into a New Graduate RN role upon successful graduation and licensure.

The 12‑month Nurse Residency Program supports newly licensed RNs — or RNs with less than one year of experience — in developing clinical judgment, confidence, and the skills needed to transition from entry‑level practice to competent practice.

  • Develop clinical judgment and decision‑making

  • Provide safe, evidence‑based patient care

  • Demonstrate clinical leadership at the bedside

  • Apply best practices and research in daily care

  • Learn collaboratively with educators, preceptors, and peers

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduated or projected to graduate from an accredited nursing program with less than 12 months of RN experience.

  • Student Nurse Intern Eligibility: Final‑semester senior nursing students

  • Licensure: Massachusetts RN license required.
