About the Role

Here at The Exploration Company, we are developing, producing, and operating Nyx, a modular and reusable space orbital vehicle that can eventually be refuelled in orbit and that can carry cargo - and potentially humans in the longer run.

We are looking for an intern to join us as Crew Systems Engineering Intern, Human Factors

Key Responsibilities

  • As an Human Factors Engineering intern, you will work under the direction of our Crew Systems Lead, to support human-in-the-loop testing, wherein we would evaluate seat fit, workstation view and reach envelopes, display & controls UX, and other associated activities to support the US engineering office with tasks related to the Nyx Crew vehicle prototype testing, including:

    • Create usability testing plans and conduct human-in-the-loop tests to evaluate crew cabin design effectiveness

    • Analyze user behavior and feedback to inform design decisions

    • Apply ergonomic principles to optimize crew cabin design for suited and un-suited use

    • Prototype and test new product ideas to improve usability

    • Develop and document user interface standards and guidelines

Qualifications

Applicants should be enrolled students who are currently able to work 20-40 hours per week for a period of at least 10 weeks, beginning in June 2026.

Strong candidates will have:

  • Undergraduate or graduate studies in engineering, applied physics, computer science, or a related field

  • Strong hands-on project experience through student teams, work projects, personal projects, or hobbies

  • Familiarity with human factors test protocol development and execution

  • Experience with anthropometrics, ergonomic assessments, human-computer interaction, and design of experiments

  • Hands on test experience

  • Independent, self-starter attitude

Due to federal regulations (e.g., ITAR/EAR), applicants must be U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents (e.g., current Green Card holders).
