SCOPE OF THE ROLE:

Learn various aspects of the EHS and Sustainability function by working with the EHS & Sustainability Manager, and the Gast team in the Benton Harbor facility. Provide day-to-day support of existing team members as well as take ownership of specific projects designed to achieve risk reduction, sustainability improvements, compliance, and manufacturing improvements. Collaborate with other functions of the organization including Procurement, Operations, Finance, Regulatory, Lab, and Sales to achieve objectives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provide project support for the EHS & Sustainability Manager
• Work on revising Job Safety Analysis (JSA) documents
• Work on inspections with Hazardous/ Non-Hazardous, Universal Waste, Stormwater, Paint Logs.
• Provide training support for regulatory status within the facility.
• Work on maintaining procedures and policies within the facility
• Active member of the safety committee while in the facility.
• Providing administrative support to the EHS & Sustainability Manager as needed.

Provide Support to Product Manufacturing Team

• To interact with them daily to look for risk improvements.
• Discuss any ergonomic solutions to improve their work areas.
• Work to help improve safety behaviors with the EHS & Sustainability Manager.
• Deploy safety talks for the team each week.
• Help with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) supplies
• Work with our Human Resource team with new hire safety orientation

PHYSICAL/MENTAL/ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Strong drive for results
• Able to manage multiple tasks and priorities at the same time
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Quickly able to learn new concepts, natural curiosity, and willingness to ask questions
• Proficient in basic Microsoft Office applications
• Ability to travel domestically for 1-2 days at a time

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS OR EQUIVALENCIES:

• Freshman year complete by start of internship
• Majoring in Safety, Environmental competencies, or related discipline
