Short overview on the Team

SGX Index Edge (iEdge) is a leading global index provider. We operate in an exciting and fast-changing world of active and passive investments. By combining superior technology with SGX’s reach as an international exchange, we deliver proprietary and bespoke indexing solutions across a range of underlying instruments, strategies and investment themes. We also collaborate with major investment banks and help them independently calculate Quantitative Investment Strategies across major asset classes. 


Learning Objectives

  • Index methodology design: translating investment objectives into transparent, rule-based index rules (eligibility, weighting, rebalancing, buffers, corporate actions).
  • Backtesting best practices: data sourcing/cleaning, sanity/bias checks, neat documentation, and building scalable workflows.
  • Working with the team, the intern will learn about the innovative developments in the world of investing. Specific topics will be:
    • Active and Passive Investment Strategies
    • Quantitative Investment Solutions
    • Equity Index Structuring/Rebalancing 
  • Strategies, Thematic & Smart Beta Investments, along with the general workings of global financial markets.  


Job Description

  • Candidate is expected to build sample portfolios, calculate index levels and key analytics, and develop Python and Excel-based models to support index research.
  • Candidate is expected to contribute to enhancements of the team’s backtesting module (e.g., adding analytics, automating workflows, and performing validation/QA checks) and to provide analysis and insights to internal stakeholders and external clients.
  • Candidate is expected to support ad-hoc analytical tasks, including data acquisition, downloading, and processing from vendor APIs and internal sources.

 

Knowledge and Skill Requirements

  • Basic understanding of financial markets, financial instruments and portfolio theories
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills 
  • Good command of MS Office (Excel, Power Point, Word)
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills 
  • Coding skills in Python and SQL
  • Knowledge in cloud computing (AWS) will be advantageous  
  • Ability to work independently and have curiosity to learn
