About the Role

The Expedia Design Builder Internship is designed for product designers who are pushing the edge of what design is becoming. This program is for individuals who blend strong visual and interaction craft with systems thinking and AI‑native workflows—designers who are comfortable shaping both the experience and the logic behind it. You’ll work across Expedia’s travel portfolio, contributing to real initiatives and forward‑looking prototypes that reflect our commitment to a builder‑led, AI‑native design culture.

As a Design Builder, you’ll flex across skillsets and engage in big‑picture thinking while also diving deep into typography, layout, motion, behavior modeling, and intelligent system interactions. You’ll create interactive explorations that show how experiences work—not just how they look—while collaborating closely with partners across design, product, engineering, research, and AI/ML.

What You’ll Do

  • Create interactive, functional prototypes that demonstrate real system behavior—how states change, how intelligence adapts the interface, and how users move through workflows.

  • Produce core design artifacts including user flows, journey maps, visual layouts, and motion explorations.

  • Explore how intelligent systems change the interface itself, modeling state transitions and prototyping adaptive behaviors.

  • Work across travel discovery, booking, post‑booking support, and partner/supplier tools, contributing to initiatives that span surfaces, roles, and systems.

  • Develop clear documentation that explains the logic behind your designs and the reasoning behind key decisions.

  • Collaborate with designers, design leads, product managers, researchers, engineers, and—when relevant—data science and AI/ML teams to shape feasible, customer‑informed, system‑aware experiences.

  • Participate in regular design reviews with your immediate product team and share your work with extended partners across product, engineering, and research.

  • Present your work to the broader intern community and, at the end of the program, to senior leaders and the design organization.

  • Contribute to real, high‑velocity projects, reinforcing our belief that this is not an observational program but a hands‑on opportunity to turn ideas into working experiences.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must be available to commit to the full program datesJune 22nd - August 28th, 2026

  • Must be graduating with an undergraduate or master’s degree in a design related subject (e.g. Digital Product Design, UX/UI Design, or related field) between December 2026 and July 2027

  • Must be willing to relocate to city of job location if outside commuting distance

  • Must commit to full time hours every week

  • Must be graduating from university in the same country of internship location

  • Must have no more than 2 years of professional experiencein a similar role

Preferred Experience:

  • Helpful to possess a combination of creative and coding skills, including familiarity with executing AI tools to building working prototypes in code

  • Helpful to have capability across common design and AI tools, including Cursor, Claude, Codex, Google AI studio, and others.
