About the Role

Hunt Electric, Inc. of Salt Lake City, UT is hiring for a summer intern position for a Web Developer to assist a small development team inside an industry-leading electrical contractor that is willing to push the boundaries on how things get done by replacing the spreadsheets, paper processes and legacy thinking with software that works.

 

The role of the summer intern Web Developer will be working on internal tools that project managers, foremen, operations staff and executives use to get their jobs done - scheduling, project tracking, field workflows, divisional and executive dashboards. The work is real and the feedback is immediate.

 

 

Major Duties:

  • Build and improve internal web apps that help support our internal operations and external projects.
  • Work on front end components used by both office staff and field teams.
  • Help with backend work like APIs, database queries, and integrations with 3rd party systems.
  • Debug issues in live systems (and learn how things actually break in production and how to get them back up and running).
  • Sit in on conversations with different teams to understand what they need and help turn their needs into working solutions.
  • Assist in putting together designs and SOWs for new features and tools.
  • Experience working through the full development lifecycle in production.
  • Practice talking with non-technical teams and turning their needs into functional solutions.
  • Exposure to a modern web stack (Laravel, APIs, MySQL, JavaScript frameworks).
  • Experience using GitHub and collaborating on a small team.
  • Debugging and performance tuning in systems people depend on daily.
  • Actively contributes to a positive team environment.
  • Demonstrates dependability with regular attendance and compliance to scheduled work hours.
  • Demonstrate an aptitude for learning, goal-oriented mindset for continual growth, with a “Can-Do” positive attitude.
  • Other duties or locations as assigned by Manager.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Are working toward a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or something similar
  • Have a basic grasp of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
  • Know at least one programming language (PHP, JavaScript, Python, etc.)
  • Like solving problems and paying attention to the details
  • Can pick things up quickly and work well with others
  • Experience with a web framework like Laravel, Livewire, React, or Vue a plus.
  • Experience working with databases like MySQL, SQL or PostgreSQL preferred.
  • Comfortably use Git or another software versioning platform is a bonus.
  • Experience working with API’s and JSON/XML data preferred.
  • Experience with UI toolkits like Tailwind or Bootstrap a plus.
  • Clean driving record.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.

Work Schedule

This is a full-time summer position with a typical working schedule of Monday - Thursday, 7:00 am - 4:00 pm, Friday, 7:00 am - 2:00 pm.
