About the Role

Location: Newport, MN
Duration: 10–15 weeks (Spring/Summer)
Schedule: Full-time, seasonal (40 hours/week)
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt – Paid Internship


About the Opportunity:

This internship is designed to expose the student to the diverse machinery that is used in the day to day operations of a large scale nursery. 

Intern will have the opportunity to learn about gas/diesel/battery powered vehicles such as vans and trucks, tractors, forklifts, small engines, golf carts, and potting machinery. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Under the guidance of an experienced shop mechanic, the intern will assist with the following responsibilities:
  • Perform routine service and preventative maintenance on tractors, trucks, and other production equipment.
  • Assist with tire repair, replacement, and maintenance across a variety of equipment types.
  • Maintain accurate and organized service records in accordance with company procedures.
  • Help identify opportunities to reduce equipment downtime and improve repair efficiency.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, including proper care and use of shop tools and equipment.
  • Communicate repair progress, equipment issues, and maintenance needs clearly with the supervising mechanic.
  • Follow all safety procedures and contribute to a culture of safe work practices.

Required Qualifications:

  • Interest or foundational experience in mechanical systems, with opportunities to gain hands-on experience diagnosing and repairing engines, brakes, clutches, and electrical systems.
  • Willingness to learn and operate shop tools, equipment, and machinery under the guidance of experienced technicians.
  • Valid driver’s license with an insurable driving record preferred.
  • Commitment to workplace safety and contributing to a clean, organized, and collaborative shop environment.


The spring internship program begins as early as January and continues through the end of May. This program can be combined with our summer internship program, which ends in August. There is flexibility on the beginning and end dates to accommodate school schedules.
