Primary Responsibilities

HDR is currently seeking a Site Civil Intern for our Building Engineering Services Business Group located in Denver, CO.  Our team is an integrated facility and infrastructure design team consisting of core services of Mechanical, Electrical, Structural and Site Civil Engineering.  This person will be contributing to the design of facility-related sites in support of a variety of markets including Corporate/Commercial, Healthcare, Education, Municipal, Civic, Industrial, Sports & Recreation, and Mission Critical buildings and infrastructure.  They will be expected to coordinate and work closely with a multidiscipline design team throughout the entire life cycle of projects from planning stages, through the development of construction documents, and construction administration.  Coursework experience in land development and the design of building related site civil (grading, utilities, storm drainage, stormwater management, and erosion control) is preferred.  This individual should be self-motivated, collaborative, and possess strong communication skills with an initiative to deliver high quality, technically sound designs.

In the role of Site Civil Intern, we'll count on you to:

  • Coordinate with internal and external resources to complete all due diligence research and documentation
  • Develop concept site layouts that are compliant with all Jurisdictional requirements and support the Pre-Application process
  • Coordinate with the Authority Having Jurisdiction to determine design and submittal requirements and coordinate design solutions
  • Assist with community outreach as defined within the scope of a project
  • Attend client meetings
  • Transition the concept plans through the schematic and construction design processes
  • Coordinate with subconsultants for support and design services
  • Design and produce plan sets, details, specifications, and cost estimates
  • Perform calculations in support of the site development (stormwater pond sizing, culvert and pipe capacity analysis, hydrology calcs, etc.)
  • Author reports that are technically sound, grammatically correct, and well organized
  • Collaborate with team engineers to determine the best course of action
  • Be independent in your pursuit for information and solutions
  • Manage your time and organization of multiple tasks/projects
  • Communicate effectively with managers and team members
  • Pursue efficiencies within your work and operations
  • Be an advocate for HDR, the BES Business Group, and the Site Civil team
  • Perform other tasks that support the mission and vision of HDR and the BES Business Group

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD/Civil 3D with the drive to learn more
  • Demonstrated knowledge of software packages related to field of study/industry
  • Preference given to local candidates

 

HDR’s Site Civil Internship Program

Our program is structured to immerse you in the day-to-day activities of a site civil engineer and provide you with exposure to a variety of projects.  This is a hands-on position, where you will be drafting, performing calculations, and attending meetings for active projects.  Most of our time is spent in the office, but you may also be asked to attend offsite client meetings or field inspections, depending on the status of active projects.  We have a 40-hour work week, Mon – Fri, with an office-based team and you will have the flexibility to set a consistent schedule that works for you (starting between 7am and 9am).  At the start of the next semester, you may be offered the opportunity to continue with us for several hours a week



Required Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate Engineering program
  • Attention to detail
  • Possess strong problem-solving and communication skills
  • Basic Microsoft Office skills
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
