About the Role

Graduate MSW Internship

Family Preservation Department
Dover/Seacoast, NH | Waypoint

Waypoint has been supporting New Hampshire families since 1850. Our Child and Family Preservation Department works alongside NH child protective and juvenile justice services to support children and caregivers to strengthen parenting skills, promote child safety, and build family stability.

We are seeking a Graduate MSW intern to gain hands-on experience in a community and home based human services setting. This opportunity is ideal for students pursuing degrees in social work, psychology, or counseling.

What You’ll Do:

  • Support children/youth and their caregivers in the community or their home.

  • Provide case management, family, and individual therapy to a small caseload of clients including children ages 0-18, their parents/guardians, and foster/relative placements.

  • Have opportunities to practice your formal and informal assessment and treatment planning skills.

  • Complete documentation and administrative tasks relevant to your assigned caseload.

  • Provide supervised visitation to children and their parents as needed.

  • Participate in team meetings and trainings.

  • Observe family-centered service delivery (as appropriate).

  • Receive mentorship from experienced professionals.

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a graduate social work, counseling, or psychology program at an accredited college/university.

  • Ability to drive, transport clients, and meet with clients in home/community settings.

  • Age 22+ to satisfy state regulations.

  • Strong communication and organizational skills.

  • Interest in child welfare, family systems, or community services.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.

This internship offers valuable exposure to trauma-informed, strengths-based family support work in a collaborative nonprofit environment.
