Your Role at Cabot

The Battery Materials Group at Cabot Corporation is focused on developing advanced cathode, anode, and conductive additives for lithium-ion batteries, aiming to support a more sustainable future. This CO-OP position is designed for qualified undergraduate students seeking to gain industrial experience in a rapidly growing and impactful sector. The intern will provide experimental support and conduct product characterization analysis for important projects within the group. Responsibilities include collaborating with battery scientists to develop conductive carbon additive dispersions and evaluating their quality using various analytical methods and battery performance testing. Given the technical nature of the role, candidates are expected to have a strong technical background and hands-on laboratory experience, preferably in chemical engineering, materials engineering, or chemistry, along with excellent laboratory skills.

This is an onsite position in Billerica, Massachusetts.


How You will Make an Impact

  • Assist with planning and executing R&D trials to produce high-quality conductive carbon additive and/or metal oxide nanoparticle dispersions in aqueous or solvent systems.

  • Support characterization of particle dispersion properties.

  • Help with battery electrode testing by producing electrodes and performing various measurements.

  • Analyze experimental design results and organize findings in a structured format.

  • Document results in a presentation or research report.



What You Will Bring to Cabot

  • Enrollment in an undergraduate program is required.

  • University-level laboratory experience.

  • Experience in writing formal laboratory reports.

  • Demonstrated willingness to learn new skills.

  • Strong focus on safety; basic chemical safety training is preferred.

  • Coursework in materials engineering, chemistry, or chemical engineering.

  • Computer proficiency, including MS Excel and PowerPoint.

  • Minimum commitment of five months.
