About the Role

Overview

The Summer Law Clerk supports the Legal Department in providing strategic and operational legal assistance to the organization. This role offers exposure to corporate governance, regulatory compliance, litigation support, environmental and packaging regulation (EPR), and enterprise contract management systems. The intern will conduct legal research, assist with regulatory tracking, support litigation discovery efforts, and contribute to governance documentation and compliance initiatives.

This clerkship is designed to provide meaningful, hands-on legal experience in a collaborative, business-focused environment.


Responsibilities   

•  Assist in preparing Summary of Changes documents by completing general information and drafting provision detail sections (final summary narrative to be completed by Legal leadership).

•  Conduct legal and regulatory research related to Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) and other emerging regulatory frameworks; monitor and summarize regulatory developments as laws and regulations evolve.

•  Support the Legal team in responding to tasks received from outside consultants, including assistance with regulatory compliance initiatives and collaboration with business teams on data review and reporting processes.

•  Conduct legal research and prepare memoranda on a variety of corporate, regulatory, governance, and compliance matters.

•  Support litigation efforts by assisting with document collection, organization, review, and preparation of materials responsive to discovery requests.

•  Assist in reviewing and organizing corporate governance documents, policies, and related materials as assigned.

•  Support development of internal documentation, tracking logs, and process materials.

•  Participate in cross-functional meetings to understand business operations and provide research-based legal insights.

•  Maintain confidentiality of sensitive and privileged information.

•  All duties as reasonably assigned.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong legal research and analytical skills
  • Ability to synthesize complex statutory and regulatory materials into concise summaries
  • Strong written communication skills, including ability to draft memoranda and structured legal analyses
  • Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to support document-intensive processes (including discovery and governance documentation)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with legal research platforms (e.g., Bloomberg Law, Relativity, Lawgical) preferred
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a professional office environment



Qualifications and Experience

Required:

  • Currently enrolled in a Juris Doctor (J.D.) program at a Tier 1 accredited law school
  • Completion of at least one year of law school (rising 2L or 3L at time of internship); 
  • Strong academic credentials
  • Demonstrated interest in corporate law, regulatory compliance, litigation, or governance

Preferred:

  • Prior internship or work experience in a corporate legal department or law firm
  • Coursework in corporate law, administrative law, environmental law, or civil procedure
  • Experience supporting litigation or discovery processes

Travel    This job does not require international travel. Occasionally, local travel within driving distance, and overnight domestic travel may be required.

Hours of Operation This is a full-time position in Miami, FL. Standard office hours of Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM EST. This position may require additional work hours outside these work hours, including weekends, to complete job requirements.
