About the Role

The Pre‑Engineering Internship is an entry‑level, hands‑on opportunity designed for early‑career engineering students. In this role, you will support manufacturing operations by preparing electronic, electrical, and mechanical sub‑assemblies, final assemblies, and after‑assemblies.

This position is ideal for Freshman or Sophomore students currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s Engineering degree program who are interested in gaining real‑world manufacturing experience. The ideal candidate will be available to work part‑time during the spring/fall semester and full‑time during summer and winter breaks.

What You Will Do:

  • Work under the general direction of the department supervisor with minimal supervision
  • Perform motor sub‑assembly, assembly, and after‑assembly tasks using electronic, electrical, and mechanical components, following detailed work instructions and engineering bills of material
  • Assemble individual components to produce sub‑assemblies, final motor assemblies, and after‑assemblies
  • Operate and utilize manufacturing and test equipment including manual hydraulic, air, and electric presses, balancing machines, magnet chargers, encoder testers, soldering and desoldering equipment, digital voltmeters, and other test equipment
  • Use calibrated measuring equipment such as calipers, micrometers, torque wrenches, dial gauges, force gauges, oscilloscopes, and other specialized measuring tools
  • Form leads, terminals, and wire assemblies
  • Assemble encoders, brakes, pulleys, and lead assemblies onto finished motors
  • Solder electrical and electronic components into sub‑assemblies, after‑assemblies, and final assemblies
  • Operate motor run‑in and final test equipment
  • Maintain responsibility for both product quality and production output
  • Use light hand assembly tools in the normal performance of job duties

What We Are Looking For:

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Completion of at least one year of college‑level coursework preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s Engineering degree program (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or related field preferred)
  • Strong math skills and mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to lift 20+ lbs occasionally, 10–20 lbs frequently, and up to 10 lbs continuously
  • Ability to stand or sit for extended periods, up to 8 hours per day

Additional Characteristics:

  • Moderate noise level in the manufacturing environment
  • May be exposed to industrial cleaning chemicals and oils
