Brief Summary

Title: Summer Intern - Information Technology, Application Development

 

You'll Report To: Senior Vice President of Information Technology

 

The IT Application Development Summer Intern will support a strategic technology initiative focused on modernizing the organization’s payment platform architecture. This project-based internship is designed for students pursuing degrees in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, Business Analytics, or related disciplines.

 

The intern will observe and analyze the implementation of a modern payment platform integrating premium collections and claims disbursements through a scalable microservices architecture. The capstone project will take the form of a structured case study evaluating implementation strategy, deployment methodology, performance outcomes, and long-term recommendations. At the conclusion of the internship, the intern will present findings to executive leadership.

 

This is a temporary, project-based internship for Summer 2026.


What You’ll Do

Internship Project: Payment Modernization Platform Implementation

The Intern will focus on the following key initiatives:

 

  1. Architecture & Modernization Strategy Review
  • Analyze the transition from legacy monolithic payment systems to a microservices-based platform architecture.
  • Review API gateway implementation and traffic routing between legacy systems and new services.
  • Evaluate modernization goals including scalability, resilience, compliance readiness, and support for real-time payment rails.
  • Assess support for modern payment standards such as RTP, digital wallets, cross-border APIs, and ISO 20022.
  1. Implementation Methodology & Deployment Strategy
  • Observe Agile SDLC practices supporting incremental system rollout.
  • Analyze phased migration strategies including shadow validation (dual-write) and canary releases.
  • Review rollback readiness and risk mitigation strategies at each deployment phase.
  • Evaluate zero-downtime migration techniques including Change Data Capture (CDC) and reconciliation protocols.
  1. Performance Evaluation & Case Study Development
  • Assess key performance metrics including transaction success rate, system uptime, response times, and compliance adherence.
  • Review stakeholder feedback and operational impact following phased deployments.
  • Analyze improvements in observability and incident response time.
  • Develop a structured case study summarizing findings, risks mitigated, measurable outcomes, and future modernization recommendations.

 

What You’ll Do & What You’ll Learn:

 

  • Observe enterprise-scale platform modernization within a live transactional environment.
  • Gain exposure to microservices architecture and API-based system integration.
  • Learn zero-downtime deployment strategies including shadow mode validation and canary release execution.
  • Develop understanding of real-time payment technologies and modern compliance frameworks.
  • Analyze performance metrics and interpret technical and operational results.
  • Review architecture diagrams, database schemas, and implementation documentation.
  • Strengthen analytical and technical writing skills through structured case study development.
  • Present executive-level insights, conclusions, and recommendations at the end of the internship.

     


What You’ll Need to be a Top Candidate

Education:           

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university.
  • Pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, Business Analytics, or related field.
  • Rising junior or senior preferred.

Skills:                                   

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Interest in system architecture, APIs, cloud-native platforms, or fintech innovation.
  • Ability to interpret technical documentation and summarize findings clearly.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with technical teams.

Schedule: 8:30-5:30pm, M-F.  #LI-Onsite

 

Working Conditions: Normal business office environment.  Must be able to remain in a stationary position for periods of time while constantly operating a computer and or other office productivity machinery such as a calculator or telephone.  The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery or communicate with coworkers.
