Description
The Public Relations intern will play an active role in communication with the District of Columbia Housing Finance Agency’s customers, constituents, partners, stakeholders and online communities. The intern will assist in maintaining the Agency’s organizational presence on various social media platforms and help create and publish content that is relevant to the Agency’s audience. This internship will benefit someone who is interested in media relations, public relations, marketing and community relations. Housing experience and/or interest is a plus but is not required.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist with relevant projects undertaken by the Vice President of Public Relations to include but not limited to homeownership seminars, groundbreakings, receptions, presentations and speech writing
- Take pictures and videos at Agency events to be utilized for the Agency’s social media platforms
- Assist in managing the Agency’s website and social media platforms including, Facebook, X, Instagram, LinkedIn and YouTube.
- Promote events and programs through the Agency’s social media as well as the events calendar on the DCHFA website
- Engage and bring value to users’ interactions with the Agency by responding to posts and comments on social media
- Collaborate with the Agency’s website provider to ensure all information remains up-to-date, making any edits as necessary
- Post updates, news and announcements on social media accounts in a manner that invites conversation and interaction
- Create content and update social media accounts with current and relevant photos and videos from Agency events
- Perform research to find articles, stories, videos, resources, or other content that is relevant to the Agency’s mission
- Propose innovative ways to initiate and grow the Agency’s audience on social media
- Manage, organize, and archive the Agency’s digital media content
- Monitor the online activity of partner organizations, stakeholders, and other influencers
- Research and report on social media best practices
- Utilize Google Analytics, Facebook Insights, Hootsuite, Instagram, LinkedIn and X analytics to assess trends and activity and provide recommendations.
- Review the Agency’s social media platforms and adjust plans or strategy to optimize the Agency’s reach.
- Support the Vice President of Public Relations and Public Relations Associate on all projects.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Currently enrolled at an accredited college or university seeking an undergraduate and/or graduate degree. Preferred majors include: Communications, Marketing, Mass Communications, Media Relations, Public Relations, Strategic Communications or Community Relations
- Have at least a 3.00 grade point average
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong photography and video production skills
- Experience with basic photo-editing software
- Experience with graphic design
- Experience with Adobe Suite (Photoshop/Illustrator/Premier) a plus
- Familiarity with social media platforms, including but not limited to Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, X and Hootsuite
