About the Role
Under the direct supervision of a respiratory therapist, assists in the administration of prescribed doses of medical gases and the set-up and administration of therapeutic treatment and aerosolized drugs to patients. Uses oxygen mixtures in conjunction with therapeutic respiratory therapy equipment.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Assists in the administration of prescribed doses of medical gases and the set-up and administration of therapeutic treatment and aerosolized drugs to patients.
- Uses oxygen mixtures in conjunction with therapeutic respiratory therapy equipment.
- Assists with patient care rounds per policy.
- Provides and monitors routine oxygen therapy, non-critical patient transports and patient education, as needed.

Treats patients using a variety of methods including chest physiotherapy, aerosol medications, and non-invasive methods such as CPAP and BIPAP therapies.
- Monitors and records the progress of treatment.
- Teaches patients how to use treatments.
- Operates, calibrates, processes, and maintains respiratory equipment.
- Cleans, reassembles, and performance tests various pieces of patient care equipment.
- Restocks respiratory supplies and cylinders.

Actively pursues education and training necessary to become a respiratory therapist.

Performs other related duties as required and directed.
Required:
High school graduate or GED equivalent.
Currently enrolled, with successful completion of three semesters, and in good standing with a Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) approved respiratory care program.
BLS certification.
