Job Summary


The Role


The Engineering Intern will work closely with senior engineers to support the planning, design, and execution of desalination and water treatment projects. This role is designed for a chemical or mechanical engineering student who is passionate about solving global water challenges and eager to gain hands-on exposure to industrial water infrastructure projects.

The intern will contribute to active projects involving seawater and brackish water desalination, supporting engineering deliverables across multiple disciplines while developing practical engineering skills.

At SSW, engineers work on real-world infrastructure that directly improves lives, public health, and economic resilience.

Key skills and Qualifications


Under the guidance of experienced engineers, the intern may assist with:

  • Supporting engineering design activities for desalination and      water treatment facilities
  • Reviewing and redlining P&IDs, process flow diagrams, and      general arrangement drawings
  • Assisting with preparation of equipment data sheets,      technical specifications, and material lists
  • Supporting equipment selection and evaluation for pumps,      membranes, pressure vessels, piping, and related systems
  • Coordinating and tracking vendor documentation and technical      submittals
  • Assisting with material take-offs, document control, and      engineering schedules
  • Supporting cross-disciplinary coordination with process,      mechanical, electrical, and construction teams
  • Participating in internal design reviews and learning SSW      engineering standards and practices

Additional responsibilities may be assigned based on project needs and the intern’s interests.

Qualifications

Required

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical      Engineering or Mechanical Engineering (junior or senior standing      preferred)
  • Strong interest in water, sustainability, and infrastructure      engineering
  • Ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal      formats
  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn
  • Comfortable working in a team environment across multiple      disciplines

Preferred

  • Coursework or interest in fluid mechanics, thermodynamics,      mass transfer, or process engineering
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, Revit, or similar engineering tools
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Prior internship, co-op, or project experience related to      water, energy, or industrial systems
