Job Description:
The Environmental Justice Outreach Intern will support MEPA Environmental Justice Liaison to implement key initiatives with the goal of increasing the office’s accessibility and outreach capabilities. They will assist in organization/maintenance of a statewide database containing contact information for Community-Based Organizations (CBO) and Tribal/Indigenous contacts. They’ll also assist in implementing digital accessibility remediation of key MEPA policy documents, decision documents, presentations, and video content.
The Intern will have the opportunity to not only meet with professionals committed to furthering environmental justice, but they also will communicate with local organizers across the commonwealth to learn about grassroots community efforts
Job Duties:
Research key organizational details of CBOs; including locating active websites, confirming appropriate contact information, and potentially identifying additional organizations.
Development and data management of standardized form for annual outreach to ensure groups are interested in being “subscribed” to outreach from various EEA offices/agencies.
As appropriate/requested, hold phone calls and/or one-on-one or small group meetings to connect with CBO representatives and answer questions about the different outreach available from various EEA offices/agencies.
Assist in remediating MEPA’s online document repository to comply with Executive Order 614 and ADA Title II Web Content Accessibility guidelines and requirements. This includes remediating content originating from Microsoft Word, Powerpoint, Excel, as well as video content.
Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
Firm understanding of Microsoft form creation, distribution, and management.
Openness and excitement to talking to community representatives from a variety of backgrounds, geographies, and interests.
Coursework, supplemental reading, past work experience, etc. related to environmental governance and environmental justice.
Experience generating accessible digital content.
This internship is unpaid and designed to support students or recent graduates seeking practical experience in the field. Interns may be eligible to earn academic credit through their college or university.
