This position is for Duke Energy's Legal Internship 2026 MIP Summer Associate Program

The Legal Intern will work with in-house attorneys on various projects.  The assigned projects will focus on utility regulatory matters, including rate increases, environmental compliance and other compliance work.  There will also be an opportunity to work with in-house litigation attorneys.  The Legal Intern must be able to work independently, be able to conduct specialized legal research, excel at writing documents to be filed before regulators and state courts, and have an interest in utility work.

Basic/Required Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in law school

  • Cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher

Desired Qualifications

  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher

  • Completed the first year of law school

  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft applications and LexisNexis

  • Demonstrated proficiency in conducting legal research

  • Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication skills, with legal writing experience

  • Commitment to diversity and inclusion

  • Interest in utility regulatory matters

Working Conditions

  • Onsite Mobility Classification – Work will be performed at a company facility.

  • Internship start date: TBD

  • Internship end date: TBD (8 weeks)

  • Ability to work up to 40 hours per week
