Marketing Summer Intern – Competitive Intelligence

Location: Remote
Company: Happy Returns
Duration: Summer (10 weeks)
Team: Marketing

Happy Returns is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented summer intern to support our marketing team with competitive intelligence and market research. This role will focus on analyzing our primary competitors to help inform our positioning, sales enablement, and content strategy ahead of peak season.

This is a hands-on opportunity to gain real-world experience in marketing and strategy—placing and completing test returns, analyzing customer experiences, and evaluating how a key competitor is positioned across the market. The intern will turn research into clear insights and internal resources that support marketing, sales, and leadership teams.

What you'll do:

  • Conduct competitive research on Happy Returns' primary competitor, including product experience, retailer implementations, and positioning
  • Place and complete test returns to document end-to-end user flows, drop-off experiences, and refund timelines
  • Analyze competitor's marketing presence across website, press, LinkedIn, and partner channels
  • Perform SEO and GEO research to understand how the competitor is discovered and communicated
  • Synthesize findings into a competitive analysis (e.g., SWOT, differentiators)
  • Build a competitive intelligence deck and present findings to internal stakeholders
  • Create internal sales enablement resources (e.g., one-pagers, training materials)
  • Recommend content ideas (blog topics, case studies, video concepts) to support marketing efforts

Who you are:

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Marketing, Advertising, Business, Supply Chain, or a related field
  • Strong research and analytical skills with attention to detail
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills
  • Organized and able to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
  • Curious and interested in e-commerce, logistics, or marketing strategy

Requirements:

  • Experience with research, coursework, or internships in marketing, business, or related fields
  • Familiarity with Excel and Powerpoint
  • Basic understanding of SEO or digital marketing is a plus
  • Must be able to commute to a competitor drop-off location
