Position Summary
*This position is for FBN's Summer 2026 Internship Cohort (May - August)*

Farmers Business Network is seeking a highly motivated and analytical Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) Intern to join our Finance team. This role offers an excellent opportunity for a student in their last year of a Bachelor’s degree or pursuing a Master’s degree to gain hands-on experience in financial modeling, business intelligence, and strategic financial analysis within a dynamic, high-growth ag-tech environment. The ideal candidate possesses a strong foundation in finance or accounting principles and a keen interest in data-driven decision-making.

Responsibilities
The FP&A Intern will support the Finance team across the following areas:
  • Financial Modeling: Develop, maintain, and enhance financial models to support budgeting, forecasting, and strategic business decisions across the Ag-Chemicals division and broader FBN operations.
  • OPEX & Variance Analysis: Assist in leading the OPEX lifecycle by supporting monthly, quarterly, and annual Budget vs. Actual (BvA) variance analyses — identifying cost drivers, pinpointing savings opportunities, and helping craft the “story behind the numbers” for senior stakeholders.
  • Data Analysis & Business Intelligence (BI): Utilize Tableau (and SQL) to extract, manipulate, and analyze large financial datasets, identifying trends, risks, and opportunities. Support the design and maintenance of dynamic financial dashboards and performance reports.
  • Reporting & Presentation Preparation: Prepare comprehensive financial analyses, reports, and presentations for senior management, clearly communicating complex financial information and actionable insights.
  • Performance Monitoring & KPI Tracking: Assist in tracking and analyzing key performance indicators (KPIs) and financial results against budget and forecast, explaining variances and driving accountability across business units.
  • Strategic Planning & Forecasting Support: Support the coordination of bottom-up OPEX budgeting and annual operating plan (AOP) processes. Assist with rolling forecast updates and scenario analysis.
  • Cross-Functional Business Partnering: Serve as a liaison across departments to gather inputs, align financial targets, and provide financial support to ensure that organizational goals are met — including building OPEX assumptions, tracking costs, and proposing month-end accruals.
  • Financial Systems Exposure (NetSuite & PBCS): Gain exposure to and work within Oracle NetSuite (ERP) and Oracle PBCS (Planning and Budgeting Cloud Service) to ensure data integrity and seamless information flow across financial systems.
  • Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to streamline and automate FP&A reporting processes and planning workflows for increased efficiency and accuracy.
  • Ad-Hoc Projects & Analysis: Provide analytical support for various ad-hoc financial initiatives, mergers and acquisitions due diligence, and other special projects at the request of senior management.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled in the last year of a Bachelor’s program or actively pursuing a Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or a related quantitative field.
  • Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of financial statements and corporate finance concepts.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (complex financial modeling is required), with a proven capacity to leverage AI tools in modeling and daily analytical tasks.
  • Demonstrated experience with Tableau or similar data visualization/BI tools, and SQL for data querying and analysis.
  • Willingness to learn and work within NetSuite and Oracle PBCS in a professional environment.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior internship experience in FP&A, Corporate Finance, Investment Banking, Consulting, or a highly analytical role.
  • Familiarity with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems (e.g., Oracle NetSuite) or planning tools (e.g., Oracle PBCS).
  • Proven ability to translate complex financial data into clear, actionable insights and executive-level presentations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with experience presenting to senior stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with agriculture industry dynamics, including commodity markets, seasonal cycles, and supply chain considerations.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and work effectively in a fast-paced team environment.

Characteristics
The successful applicant will be:
  • Mission-Driven: Driven by FBN’s mission to empower family farmers through data and technology.
  • Intellectually Curious: Eager to dive deep into financial data, industry dynamics, and business performance.
  • Disciplined & Accountable: Committed to delivering high-quality output and meeting deadlines consistently.
  • Agile: Able to pivot quickly, absorb new tools and systems, and operate in a high-growth environment.
  • Self-Starter: Proactive in identifying problems and proposing solutions without being asked.
