About the Role

2026 Summer Intern - Research Oncology

Department Summary

A 2026 summer internship position is available for a talented and highly motivated summer intern to join the de Sauvage Lab in the Department of Research Oncology at Genentech. In this role, the intern will apply molecular biology and computational approaches to study signaling cross-talk mechanisms that drive treatment-induced plasticity in colorectal cancer. This internship allows the unique opportunity to participate in basic biology research deeply embedded in drug discovery efforts, with the aim of identifying and characterizing the next-generation of oncology targets.

This internship position is located in South San Francisco, onsite.

The Opportunity

  • Work to characterize mechanisms of treatment-related plasticity in cell lines and 3D organoid models of cancer.

  • Analyze ‘omics data to provide insights into mechanisms of tumor suppression.

  • Keep detailed records of the research findings using an electronic notebook.

  • Communicate and present results to a diverse group of scientists during internal meetings.

  • Join a vibrant, rigorous, and industry-leading oncology community.

  • Contribute to a highly innovative project and collaborate productively with researchers across departments at Genentech.

Program Highlights

  • Intensive 12-weeks, full time (40 hours per week) paid internship.

  • Program start dates are in May/June 2026.

  • A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship.

Who You Are

Required Education: Must be pursuing a PhD (enrolled student).

Required Majors: Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Cancer Biology, Biochemistry or related fields.

Required Skills:

  • Hands-on research experience in cell biology/biochemistry/molecular biology lab environment is required.

  • Expertise in advanced cell culture techniques such as cell line engineering using CRISPR/Cas9 or PiggyBac transposon systems.

  • Demonstrated ability to be highly motivated and work independently.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.

  • Expertise in bulk and single-nucleus RNA-seq and ATAC-seq data analysis (R or Python).

Relocation benefits are not available for this job posting. 

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $46.00 hour. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position also qualifies for paid holiday time off benefits.
