Description of Work
Summer 2026 (May 2026 - July 2026)Full-time Work Schedule,
Monday- Friday, 40 hours per week
Position: HBCU Information Technology Intern (EATS-EMS/IDMS)
Location: Remote
Internship Duration: 10-week internship (May 26, 2026, to July 31, 2026)
About the Internship:
Are you interested in gaining hands-on experience supporting enterprise applications and IT operations within a large public-sector organization? Join NCDOT’s Enterprise Application and Testing Services (EATS) team as an intern supporting the Enterprise Management Systems (EMS) and Intelligent Document Management Systems (IDMS) applications.
This internship provides an opportunity to work with enterprise-level software systems used to support transportation operations across North Carolina. The intern will assist with application support, incident management, troubleshooting, and system maintenance while collaborating with internal teams and external vendors. Interns will gain exposure to enterprise application environments, operational support processes, and real-world IT service management practices.
This position is remote-friendly, with the supervising manager based out of the Century Center in Raleigh.
Key Responsibilities:
• Assist with application support and maintenance for Enterprise Management Systems (EMS) and Intelligent Document Management Systems (IDMS)
• Support incident management and change management activities in coordination with NCDIT–Transportation teams
• Help troubleshoot system incidents and assist with resolving technical issues across enterprise applications
• Collaborate with internal teams and external vendors to support system operations and maintenance
• Assist with software integration and implementation tasks across multiple application platforms
• Contribute to system documentation, operational processes, and technical support materials
• Support data analysis activities related to application performance and operational reporting
• Participate in meetings with application teams to understand system workflows and support project coordination
• Provide general administrative and operational support for IT initiatives as needed
Ideal Candidate:
We are seeking motivated students pursuing degrees in Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Science, Software Engineering, or related technology fields who are interested in enterprise application support and IT operations.
The ideal candidate is analytical, detail-oriented, and eager to learn about enterprise system environments, application lifecycle management, and IT service operations in a collaborative team environment.
Preferred Skills and Knowledge:
• Basic understanding of software development concepts, system integration, or application architecture
• Interest or experience in incident management, change management, or IT service operations
• Familiarity with data analysis, data science, or reporting tools
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Ability to troubleshoot technical issues and work collaboratively with technical teams
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work independently in a remote environment while collaborating with distributed teams

Eligibility Requirements:
- Must be a currently enrolled full-time student in a bachelors, masters, or professional level program at an accredited or recently graduated from a North Carolina Historically Black College/University (HBCU) or Minority Serving Institution (MSI) by May, 2026.
- 24 credit hours completed.
- Minimum overall GPA of 2.5 (on 4.0 scale)
- Has legal right to work in the U.S. and do not need sponsorship
