Title:

Laboratory Operational Enhancement – Assist in identification and implementation of new equipment to enhance laboratory operations.

 

Description:

The Clinical & Manufacturing Sciences (CMS) department in Clayton is seeking a summer intern for an 8-to-12-week project focused on optimizing laboratory operations. The intern will help identify potential new equipment, coordinate the removal of retired assets, and support the integration of new equipment into our laboratories.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Updating and maintaining laboratory equipment inventories
  • Supporting the harmonization of analytical test instruments
  • Identifying and evaluating potential replacement equipment that aligns with departmental needs
  • Engaging with equipment vendors to gather information and build working relationships
  • Assisting with capital expenditure requests to ensure timely procurement and installation of new equipment

This internship offers hands-on exposure to laboratory operations within a biopharma process development organization. The selected candidate will also have the opportunity to present their work and internship experience at the end of the program.

 

Requirements:

  • Candidate must be currently enrolled in a 4-year degree program as a rising Sophomore, Junior, or Senior or be enrolled as a graduate student pursuing a degree in Industrial Engineering, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Bioprocessing Science or related field.
  • Candidate must currently have a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Computer literacy with proficiency in MS Office software (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to search through documentation, understand current working practices, and identify efficiency opportunities.
  • Familiarity with laboratory operations and equipment including general laboratory safety awareness.
  • Basic skills necessary: Ability to communicate effectively and work independently with direction.
