Description/Qualifications:

Weis Markets, Inc. is seeking students actively enrolled in an accredited HVAC/Refrigeration institution at the collegiate level.  This internship is designed to provide the candidate with additional knowledge of supermarket refrigeration maintenance operations including, refrigerant use/management, tool use required of the trade, basic knowledge of rack systems, case troubleshooting/repair and additional functional areas as opportunities to introduce these areas arise.  The intern will be supervised by their assigned Store Service Supervisor and will be expected to gain exposure and contribute to the following areas:

  • Refrigeration rack preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, diagnosing and repair.
  • Compressor insights – The reasons why compressors of all types fail and how to prevent such.
  • Condenser maintenance & cleaning.
  • Refrigerated case maintenance, including stand-alone equipment.
  • Basic electrical troubleshooting on <120VAC and 24VDC systems.
  • Understands the proper procedures for refrigerant use and can detect and repair leaks.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Ensures associate behavior is consistent with the Company’s mission, vision and values. Understands the role [internal and external] customers play in daily operations. Demonstrates a basic level of proficiency using tools and equipment commonly used in the trade. Possesses basic math skills to account for refrigerant charges/losses. Demonstrates adequate communication skills to converse and learn from Weis technician. Applies common sense to multiple situations: can glean information from one application and apply the principles demonstrated to the task at hand. Completes assigned tasks at an introduction/intermediate level/pace. Demonstrates the knowledge to work safely and efficiently after training. Arrives to the predesignated job site on-time and prepared.
