About the Role

ROLE DESCRIPTION:

The Digital Engineering Tools Intern will play a key role in supporting the accuracy, organization, and modernization of Bourns’ digital product data and self-service engineering and resources. Working within the Marketing Communications (MarCom) team, and with periodic exposure to engineering and product management stakeholders, the intern will help improve the quality and structure of technical product information that powers customer-facing engineering tools and internal information databases.

 

DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES – BRIEF LISTING (Including but not limited to):

 

  • Support the creation and ongoing modernization of a master product parameter database, contributing to new website functionality and next-generation self-service engineering tools.
  • Review, validate, and update electronic component parameter data — including resistance, voltage, current, tolerance, and operating temperature values, among others — to support parametric search tools on the Bourns website; identify data gaps and help expand product categories within the parametric search system.
  • Support the development and testing of electrical engineering self-service tools and calculators, including the Inductor Core Loss Calculator and Resistor Shunt Pulse Calculator; research and recommend additional high-value engineering calculators and design simulators in collaboration with engineering and technical marketing teams.
  • Organize and maintain technical product information — including product images, data sheet URLs, part number data, and product taxonomy hierarchy — used in engineering resources and digital product tools.
  • Help develop and document procedures for maintaining and updating engineering product data, including product change notifications and database records.
  • Ensure completeness and accuracy of technical marketing content metadata, including asset type classification, product and application relevance tagging, and content taxonomy hierarchy used to support MarCom digital resources.
  • Support the design and implementation of data governance procedures and workflows to ensure the long-term reliability, consistency, and accuracy of product data across digital platforms.
  • For candidates with existing experience or demonstrated capability in digital analytics platforms: assist with the implementation and configuration of Google Analytics 4 (GA4), Google Tag Manager, and Looker Studio to support website performance measurement, user experience optimization, and data-driven reporting. (This responsibility will be assigned based on the selected candidate’s background and is not required for consideration.)

 

BASIC JOB REQUIREMENTS:

 

INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: Demonstrates initiative, curiosity, and willingness to learn new engineering tools and systems, including AI-assisted productivity tools such as Microsoft Copilot.

 

COMMUNICATIONS:

    • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with engineering and marketing team members, including discussing tasks, asking questions, and providing updates on assigned projects.
    • Ability to document information clearly and accurately, including updates to product parameter databases and basic documentation related to engineering tools and digital resources. 

 

EDUCATION: Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science and entering the senior year of study.

 

EQUIPMENT OPERATED: Computer, Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel), and internal digital tools used to manage product data and engineering resources.
