About The Company
Dusty Robotics is the best solution to ensure design integrity in the field through automated layout and a streamlined BIM-to-field process. Dusty delivers a combination of hardware, software, and services that fit seamlessly into existing construction work processes by printing digital models directly on the jobsite floor with 1/16" accuracy based directly on Revit or AutoCAD models. Dusty has enabled contractors to print over 100 million square feet of layout across thousands of buildings and is trusted by leading general contractors such as DPR, McCarthy, and Skanska as well as trade contractors in framing, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing.
About the Role

About Us

Dusty Robotics builds autonomous construction robots that automate layout printing directly on job sites. Our robots bridge the gap between digital design and physical construction, bringing precision, speed, and reliability to the field.

The Role

You'll work closely with our hardware team to design, build, and test mechanical systems that power our robots. This is a hands-on role where your designs won’t just live in CAD—they’ll be built, tested, broken, improved, and shipped.

This position is required to be on-site in Mountain View, CA.

What You'll Work On

  • Design mechanical components and assemblies using CAD
  • Build and iterate on prototypes, fixtures, and test rigs for robot subsystems
  • Conduct experiments to evaluate performance, durability, and manufacturability
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret data from hardware testing
  • Create engineering drawings and support release of designs for manufacturing
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (electrical, software, product) to translate requirements into practical designs

What We're Looking For

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
  • Experience with CAD tools (We use SolidWorks)
  • Understanding of mechanical design fundamentals and manufacturing processes
  • Ability to create engineering drawings and basic assemblies
  • Familiarity with GD&T (ASME Y14.5)
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a hands-on, build-first mindset

Nice to Have (Not Required)

  • Experience with rapid prototyping (3D printing, laser cutting etc.)
  • Experience with working in a PDM environment (Solidworks or others)
  • Exposure to mechanical testing or experimental design
  • Familiarity with FEA or basic simulation tools
  • Interest in robotics, automation, or construction technology

What You'll Gain

  • Hands-on experience designing and building real robotic systems
  • Exposure to the full hardware development cycle—from concept to field deployment
  • Mentorship from engineers working at the intersection of robotics and construction
  • A deeper intuition for how designs behave outside the screen—in the real, messy, physical world
