About the Role

We are looking for a Science & Open Innovation Intern to join our Sustainable Development Team in Bolton Food based in Italy, Milan.

How you make the difference

Your agenda will focus on turning scientific research into practical solutions for the seafood sector. You will work on understanding the impact of seafood on both the environment and human health, helping to improve resource use, reduce waste, and support more sustainable food systems. You will also collaborate with universities and research partners to promote open, science-based innovation and contribute to addressing global challenges such as food security and marine conservation.

How your agenda looks like:

  • Support ongoing scientific projects, including feasibility assessments on fish residual biomass upcycling methodologies;
  • Analyze emerging technologies in marine bioprocessing and biorefinery platforms, contributing to broader technological scouting aligned with corporate innovation priorities;
  • Contribute to internal technical reports, innovation dossiers, and materials for science & innovation governance committees;
  • Support marketing and corporate communication activities related to science and open innovation;
  • Map and engage with universities, research institutes, and startups active in marine biotechnology, plastic reduction, and human nutrition, contributing to partnership evaluation and collaboration models;
  • Assist in the preparation of concept notes for EU funding programs.

You will report to the Global Science & Health Program Manager and being part of our dynamic and multifunctional Sustainable Development Team.

  • Curious, proactive, and accountable mindset, with a strong drive to improve systems, solve problems, and deliver stakeholder value;
  • Fast learner and team player, able to build trust-based relationships while ensuring a high level of confidentiality;
  • Master’s degree in Food Engineering, Chemistry, Nutrition, or Economics;
  • Proficiency in English (written and spoken);
  • Solid analytical and organizational skills, including basic knowledge of statistics, statistical tools, and scientific literature databases;
  • Familiarity with innovation processes and environments;
  • International experience is a plus.
