About The Company
Founded in 1911, the Port owns and operates Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, Fishermen’s Terminal — home of the North Pacific fishing fleet — and public marinas. The Port also owns two cruise ship terminals, a grain terminal, real estate assets, and marine cargo terminals through its partnership in the Northwest Seaport Alliance. Port operations help support nearly 200,000 jobs and $7 billion in wages throughout the region. Over the next 19 years, the port’s “Century Agenda” seeks to create an additional 100,000 jobs through economic growth while becoming the nation’s leading green and energy-efficient port.
About the Role

This is a year-long internship (part-time during the academic school year and full-time during the summer) to support the Port’s ongoing work to strengthen data quality, standardize financial information, and enhance core accounting and asset management processes. This role offers an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience in driving innovation, leveraging technology, workflow documentation, internal controls alignment, and reporting. The intern will collaborate with general accounting, capital services, and technology teams to improve data consistency and support operational readiness for key asset management initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Standardize and enhance capital asset data by reviewing existing records, recommending consistent data attributes, and supporting updates within the asset management system.
  • Document and evaluate accounting and capital asset workflows, mapping them to internal controls and identifying opportunities for process alignment and improvement.
  • Develop and refine Tableau reports and dashboards to support accounting, capital services, and data governance efforts.
Support the physical asset inventory process by compiling results, validating data, and ensuring alignment with asset management standards.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders and prepare clear summaries of findings, requirements, and project progress to support cross-functional initiatives.
  • Prepare reports and presentations summarizing project progress, findings, and recommendations for key stakeholders.
  • Other projects as assigned.

  • A Student – You must be currently enrolled in a Master’s program or a recent graduate (< 1 year ago) in a degree program such as business administration, accounting/finance, information management, or a related discipline and has an enthusiasm for analytics.
  • Committed to Equity - You will apply equity and exemplify shared values, behaviors, and practices in all aspects of the work.  At the Port of Seattle, equity is a daily responsibility and a foundational expectation for all Port employees.
  • Analytical – You have strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective Communicator – You possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Collaborative – You can work effectively in a cross-functional team environment.
  • Technologically Proficient – You demonstrate interest in finance, technology, and digital innovation. Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio) and data analytics tools (i.e. Tableau) is preferred. Prior experience or coursework related to finance, technology, or digital transformation is a plus.
