About the Role

Job Summary:

A CO‑OP in Accounting provides students with hands‑on, practical experience in core accounting functions while supporting the organization’s daily financial operations. Under the guidance of experienced accounting staff, the CO‑OP student assists with tasks such as data entry, account reconciliations, invoice processing, financial reporting, and maintaining accurate financial records. The role helps students apply classroom knowledge to real‑world scenarios, develop technical skills in accounting software, and gain exposure to internal controls, compliance standards, and month‑end procedures. This position is designed to build foundational competencies in financial analysis, problem‑solving, and professional communication while contributing meaningful support to the accounting team.

 

Essential Responsibilities

 

  • Assist with data entry for invoices, expenses, and financial transactions
  • Support account reconciliations, including bank and general ledger accounts
  • Help process accounts payable and accounts receivable
  • Prepare and organize financial documents for audits or month‑end close
  • Run basic financial reports and update spreadsheets
  • Maintain accurate and organized records in accounting systems
  • Participate in special projects, such as cost analysis or process improvements
  • Learn and follow internal controls and compliance procedures


 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a relevant undergraduate or graduate program such as Accounting or a related field.
  • Basic understanding of accounting processes and principles.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel for data analysis.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and attention to detail.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous internship or co-op experience in office / admin environment.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Dynamic Business Central, QuickBooks.
  • Knowledge of Auditing / internal compliance.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities and work in a fast-paced environment.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit for extended periods while working at a computer
  • Regular use of hands, wrists, and fingers for typing, data entry, and handling documents
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 10–20 pounds occasionally (e.g., files, binders, office supplies)
  • Sufficient vision to read spreadsheets, financial documents, and computer screens
  • Ability to communicate clearly in person, over the phone, and via email
  • Occasional standing, walking, or reaching to access files, printers, or office equipment
  • Ability to maintain focus and attention to detail for long periods during financial review tasks
