About the Role

About the Role:

The HR CO-OP / Intern will be working hand in hand with the Head of HR for a Summer, working on the implementation of a new HRIS, as well as creating a Performance Appraisal cycle, followed by Merit allocation process.

An HR CO‑OP provides hands‑on experience across core Human Resources functions while supporting daily departmental operations. Working under the guidance of HR professionals, the CO‑OP assists with recruitment activities, onboarding processes, employee file maintenance, HRIS data entry, and compliance‑related tasks. The role offers exposure to workplace policies, employee relations practices, and HR best‑practice standards. This position helps students apply classroom knowledge in a real‑world environment, develop strong communication and organizational skills, and gain practical experience in supporting a positive and compliant employee experience. The HR CO‑OP contributes meaningful administrative and project support to the HR team while building foundational competencies for a future career in Human Resources.

 Essential Responsibilities 

  • Assist with recruitment activities, including posting jobs, screening résumés, and scheduling interviews
  • Support new‑hire onboarding, preparing paperwork, creating employee files, and coordinating orientation
  • Maintain HRIS data accuracy by entering employee information, updating records, and running basic reports
  • Help ensure compliance by organizing documents, auditing files, and following confidentiality standards
  • Provide administrative support such as filing, scanning, preparing forms, and managing HR correspondence
  • Assist with employee engagement initiatives, events, and communication projects
  • Support benefits administration by helping employees with forms and directing them to appropriate resources
  • Participate in special HR projects, such as policy updates, process improvements, or training initiatives
  • Respond to general employee inquiries and direct them to the appropriate HR team member
  • Collaborate with HR staff to learn and apply best practices in employee relations and workplace policies
     
     


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a Human Resources, Business Administration, or related program
  • Ability to work part‑time or full‑time during the CO‑OP term as required by the employer or school
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Basic understanding of HR principles, workplace professionalism, and confidentiality
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and comfort learning new systems
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy in administrative tasks
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment
  • Professional, reliable, and committed to learning HR processes and best practices

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit for extended periods while working at a computer
  • Regular use of hands, wrists, and fingers for typing, data entry, and handling documents
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 10–20 pounds occasionally (e.g., files, binders, office supplies)
  • Sufficient vision to read spreadsheets, financial documents, and computer screens
  • Ability to communicate clearly in person, over the phone, and via email
  • Occasional standing, walking, or reaching to access files, printers, or office equipment
  • Ability to maintain focus and attention to detail for long periods during financial review tasks
