Job Description

This summer internship provides hands-on exposure to rail logistics, transportation data, and commercial operations supporting trading desks and processing plants.  The intern will work closely with the transportation team to support rail movements, rate analysis, and logistics systems while developing foundational industry knowledge.  This individual will be creating contacts and cultivating relationships while interfacing with all internal and external customers as needed.

Primary Responsibilities/Essential Functions

  • Gain hands-on experience using shipment tracking systems to support rail movements and reporting
  • Participate in the process of managing rail freight contracts and implications of respective contracts including applications and filings
  • Assists the local logistics teams in all rail movements, car billings and tracing and any other rail carrier or customer relationships
  • Assists with conducting and managing a research database on transportation movements related to processing plants, trading desks
  • Support maintenance and analysis of transportation rate databases for assigned plants and trading desks
  • Learn rate structures that provide for the most economical transportation cost structure & related processes

Qualifications

Education/Professional Certifications/Licenses

Must be enrolled in college pursuing a two or four-year degree in one of the following areas: industrial management, transportation/logistics, agriculture economics, agriculture technology management  

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (including any physical demands)

  • Willingness to learn the basics of logistics and trading desks
  • Demonstrates curiosity about logistics and trading environments, with strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Skilled in communication, both written and verbal
  • Proficient with MS Word and Excel.

Additional Information

Working Conditions

Primarily climate-controlled office environment.  Extensions of regular working hours are occasionally necessary to complete time-sensitive projects or to respond to emergencies.
