About the Role

Student Worker – Legacy:

Digital Content & UX Strategy Intern (26 - 27)

 Number of Openings: 1

 Purpose/Objective of the Role:

The Digital Content & UX Strategy Intern will work with the Marketing & Communications team at Ohio Wesleyan University to help shape how users experience the University’s website. This role is ideal for a student who enjoys writing, organizing information, and thinking about how people read and navigate digital content.

A central focus of this internship is supporting early planning for a future redesign of owu.edu, the University’s most powerful marketing and enrollment tool. Rather than coding or software development, this role emphasizes content clarity, user experience (UX), storytelling, and structure—how words, visuals, and layout work together to guide users.

Through guided training and increasing independence, the intern will audit website pages, evaluate content effectiveness, write and revise web copy, and organize research and insights that inform long-term website strategy. By the end of the internship, the student will have contributed meaningful work that improves the quality and usability of OWU’s digital presence while building portfolio-ready experience in web writing and UX-informed content strategy.

Tasks & Responsibilities:

  • Audit website pages for clarity, accuracy, brand voice, and user experience
  • Evaluate whether content is effectively placed for user needs and decision-making
  • Write and revise web content with an emphasis on scan ability and hierarchy
  • Select, caption, and lightly edit photos to support digital storytelling
  • Research peer and aspirational higher education websites for UX and content best practices
  • Organize content and insights to support future website redesign and content migration
  • Create and update web pages in the BigTree content management system (training provided)
  • Assist with organizing and keywording the Marketing & Communications photo archive

Qualifications:

  • Strong writing and editing skills (creative, journalistic, or analytical)
  • Interest in how users experience websites and digital content
  • Ability to organize information and make thoughtful content decisions
  • Visual awareness and appreciation for layout and design
  • Comfort working independently after training
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Basic photo editing skills (Adobe Photoshop or Adobe Express preferred)
  • Familiarity with spreadsheets or project management tools for organizing content

Potential Future Career Benefit:

This internship is well-suited for students interested in careers or graduate study in:

  • Writing, editing, or journalism
  • Strategic communication or marketing
  • UX writing; Content design, or digital strategy
  • Brand management or digital storytelling
  • Higher education marketing and communications

Students will gain experience in web writing, UX-informed content planning, and digital content management, and will leave with portfolio-ready work supporting career readiness.
