JOB PURPOSE:
The Summer Compliance Intern provides support to the Compliance Department within the Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE). This role assists with regulatory compliance activities, internal monitoring, documentation management, and audit preparation. The intern will gain exposure to compliance operations within a healthcare delivery system and will contribute to initiatives that support regulatory adherence, participant safety, and organizational integrity.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist in maintaining compliance documentation, logs, and tracking systems.
Support the review and interpretation of Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and state PACE regulatory requirements.
Participate in internal monitoring and auditing activities, including data collection, analysis, and reporting.
Assist in preparing materials for internal and external audits, surveys, and regulatory reviews.
Support the development, revision, and organization of compliance policies, procedures, and training materials.
Assist with incident, grievance, and appeal tracking and follow-up activities.
Attend departmental meetings and prepare meeting minutes as assigned.
Provide general administrative support to the Compliance Officer and departmental staff.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Weekly Hours: 40
Schedule: 8:30AM – 5:30PM
Location: Prospect Place, Brooklyn
Duration: June 1st, 2026 – Mid August, 2026
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Enrollment in an accredited undergraduate or graduate program in Healthcare Administration, Public Health, Business Administration, Law, Social Work, Nursing, or a related field.
Experience:
Able to pass a typing test with at least 35-40 WPM and with 90% of accuracy.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
Ability to manage confidential information in accordance with HIPAA and organizational policies.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment.
Demonstrated interest in healthcare compliance, regulatory affairs, or quality improvement.
Physical Requirements
Individuals must be able to sustain specific physical requirements essential to the job. This includes, but is not limited to:
Standing - duration of up to 8 hours per day in the field/community
Sitting/Stationary positions – sedentary for 6-8 hours a day for consecutive hours/periods.
Lifting/Push/Pull – up to 50 pounds of equipment, baggage, supplies, and other items used in the job scope using OSHA guidelines, etc.
Bending/Squatting – have to be able to safely bend or squat to perform the essential functions under the scope of the job.
Stairs/Steps/Walking/Climbing – must be able to maneuver stairs safely, climb up/down and walk to access work areas. The position requires an individual to be able to travel and walk between sites/locations and work areas throughout the day.
Agility/Fine Motor Skills - Must demonstrate agility and fine motor skills to operate and activate equipment, devices, instruments, and tools to complete essential job functions (i.e., typing, use of supplies, equipment, etc.)
Sight/Visual Requirements – must be able to read documentation, papers, orders, signs, etc., and accurately type/write documentation, etc.
Audio Hearing and Motor Skills (language) Requirements – must be able to listen attentively and document information from patients, community members, co-workers, clients, providers, etc., and intake information through audio processing with accuracy. In addition, one must be able to speak comfortably and clearly with language and motor skills for customers to understand an individual.
Cognitive Ability – Must be able to demonstrate good decision-making, reasonableness, cognitive ability, rational processing, and analysis to satisfy essential functions of the job.
