Job Title: Culinary Intern
Department: Culinary
Reports To: Executive Chef / Chef de Cuisine
Location: The Lake House on Canandaigua
Internship Duration: Summer 2026
Position Summary:
The Culinary Intern will gain hands-on experience in a dynamic kitchen environment, working alongside professional chefs across various restaurant outlets and banquet operations. This position provides a unique opportunity to develop technical skills, kitchen efficiency, and an understanding of both daily restaurant service and large-scale event execution.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the preparation and execution of menus across multiple kitchen outlets, including banquets, restaurants, and special events.
- Support chefs in maintaining high standards of food quality, presentation, and consistency.
- Learn and apply proper food handling, storage, and sanitation procedures in compliance with health and safety regulations.
- Work in various kitchen stations, including hot and cold prep, garde manger, and line cooking.
- Assist with inventory management, receiving deliveries, and proper storage of ingredients.
- Gain experience in knife skills, sauce preparation, butchery, and station organization.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute ideas for menu development and process improvements.
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace, ensuring compliance with kitchen sanitation protocols.
- Work collaboratively with front-of-house teams to ensure seamless dining and event execution.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Currently enrolled in a Culinary Arts program
- Passion for culinary arts, with a strong desire to learn and grow in a professional kitchen.
- Basic knowledge of kitchen equipment, cooking techniques, and food safety standards.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities.
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to take direction.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
