JOB SUMMARY

As an AI & Software Development Intern, you will help create, build, and implement software solutions and AI functions throughout the organization. This internship offers hands-on experience in modern software development, data integration, automation, and emerging artificial intelligence technologies within a regulated financial services environment. 


 The ideal candidate is analytical, curious, technically inclined, and eager to learn how software engineering and AI solutions drive operational efficiency, enhance customer experiences, and enable data-driven decision-making


RESPONSIBILITIES

Software Development Support:
 Assist in the design, development, testing, and deployment of software applications and tools. Support development efforts across platforms such as Salesforce, internal applications, and cloud-based environments (e.g., Azure). Contribute to writing clean, maintainable, and scalable code under guidance from senior developers.
 
 AI & Automation Initiatives:
 Support the development and testing of AI-driven solutions, including automation use cases, copilots, and machine learning applications. Assist in evaluating AI tools, building prototypes, and documenting use cases aligned with business needs and governance requirements.
 
 Data & Integration Support:
 Assist in integrating data from multiple systems (e.g., core banking, Salesforce, data warehouse platforms) to support analytics, reporting, and AI use cases. Work with data pipelines and support validation of data quality and accuracy.
 
 Testing & Quality Assurance:
 Participate in system testing, user acceptance testing (UAT), and validation of new features and enhancements. Identify bugs, document issues, and collaborate with development teams to resolve defects.
 
 Technical Documentation & Collaboration:
 Document technical designs, workflows, and processes. Collaborate with cross-functional teams including IT, data, operations, and business stakeholders to understand requirements and support solution delivery.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Working towards a Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, Information Systems, or a related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  •  Basic knowledge of programming languages such as Python, Java, JavaScript, or similar.
  •  Familiarity with software development concepts, version control (e.g., Git), and development frameworks.
  •  Interest or exposure to AI/ML concepts, automation tools, or data platforms is preferred.
  •  Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
  •  Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  •  Strong oral and written communication skills.
  •  Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Thorough, adaptable, and eager to learn in a fast-paced environment.


INTERNSHIP STRUCTURE:

  • Length: Internships are scheduled to run for 12 weeks. When feasible, Stearns will work to accommodate the needs of your scheduling requirements (should an internship be required or recommended for college graduation).
  • Hours: 40 hours per week expectation. Specific requests for hour modifications will be considered.
  • Managers will have bi-weekly one-on-ones with interns, meet mid-point for a formal review, and provide intern an evaluation during the last week of the internship.
  • HR will meet with intern at 30- & 90-day marks for a stay interview.
  • Interns will be expected to complete paperwork and training upon the start of their internship.
  • Interns will be assigned a mentor to support them through the program. 
  • Participation in Internship Program does not constitute full time offer of employment upon completion of internship. 
  • With positive performance and a business need for a full-time role, Interns may be eligible for full time positions upon completion of their internship.
