Do you have a deep appreciation for our natural resources and wish you had a way to help contribute to the preservation of our open space? You've found the right internship!
Our Weed Management Intern will assist with weed control and other natural resources management activities. The intent of this internship is to provide experience in the practical use and knowledge of noxious weed management, herbicide use, integrated pest management strategies, native grassland restoration, and other services directly related to natural resource and public open space management.
This is a summer internship and anticipated start date is mid-May.

Anticipated Work Schedule:
Full-time (Monday-Friday shifts) 40 hours per week with some nights and weekends as needed.
Supervision Exercised:
None
Duties and Responsibilities:
Performs open space vegetation management operations including mowing, trimming, pruning, removing, seeding, cultivating, planting, monitoring, and using herbicides
Applies pesticides, most notably herbicides, in accordance with prescribed guidelines and maintains usage records
Conducts mapping of vegetation utilizing GIS technology
Performs work related to restoration projects such as native seed collection, ripping, tilling, discing, drill seeding, adding soil amendments, mitigation work, and wildlife enhancements
Operates tractors, mowers, backhoes, loaders, mini excavators, skid steers, seed drills, dump trucks, utility trailers, water trailers, ATVs, UTVs, chippers, chemical sprayers, weed trimmers, chainsaws, blowers, and other various hand and power tools
Utilizes Integrated Pest Management (IPM) strategies in accordance with Town policies
Administrative Duties:
Performs data entry and prepares necessary records including maintenance logs, herbicide use records, and safety inspections
Prepares data reports, including maps of work sites using GIS technology
Other/Miscellaneous:
Assist with special events or projects on behalf of the Department or Town
Perform related work as required and assigned
Qualifications and BenefitsMinimum Qualifications
Obtained or in the process of obtaining a Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in Natural Resource Management, Environmental Science, Forestry, Parks Management, or a closely related field, or a minimum of 3-6 months related on-the-job experience in the field of natural resource management
OR any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
Certificates/Licenses/Registrations
Valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record required
ESRI certification or previous ArcGIS coursework preferred
