Intern Program Overview
This program is designed to foster a mutually beneficial relationship that promotes growth and development for Communities Foundation of Texas, our employees, and college students. This is a paid internship program provides a unique opportunity to enhance academic learning, apply classroom knowledge in real-world scenarios, and gain exposure to a professional work environment. Each intern is paired with a dedicated supervisor who mentors them, helps develop business skills, and oversees their work experience. Interns actively contribute as team members by setting goals, meeting deadlines, and engaging in meaningful work that helps our community thrive.
The program requires an 8 week commitment, during which interns participate in formal training, mentoring, hands-on learning, and networking opportunities with senior leaders.
- Program starts June 1, 2026, and ends July 24, 2026.
- 30 hours per week with a pay rate of $20 per hour.
Participation in the internship requires that you legally reside in Texas with in-person attendance at Dallas office, in accordance with CFT’s hybrid working model, for the duration of the program.

Intern, Financial Business Partner
The Finance Summer Intern will work within the Finance Department supporting financial analysis, reporting automation, and program performance measurement initiatives. This role provides hands-on exposure to nonprofit financial management, systems integration, and executive-level reporting tools. This is an outstanding opportunity for a student interested in corporate finance, FP&A, analytics, or nonprofit financial strategy to contribute to real projects that directly support leadership decision-making and program sustainability. The intern will collaborate cross-functionally with Program teams, Accounting, Development, and Data/Systems teams while gaining experience in financial systems such as NetSuite, Vena, and Salesforce.
What you’ll do:
Program Financial Health Scorecard Project
- Develop a standardized Program Financial Health Scorecard
- Define and calculate key financial health indicators including:
- Budget vs. Actual variance
- Burn rate
- Timing risk
- Restricted vs. unrestricted funding balance
- Design a one-page executive scorecard dashboard mockup
Financial Systems & Process Documentation
- Document workflows for financial reporting processes
- Create onboarding materials including:
- Early onboarding guide for finance tools
- Systemsmap:what lives in NetSuite vs. Vena vs. Salesforce and when to use each
- Support process improvement recommendations to increase efficiency and transparency
KPI Reporting & Automation
- Design KPI reports used for leadership decision-making
- Build automated workflows for recurring reporting tasks
- Identifyopportunities to streamline manual processes through automation or templates
Program Cost Analytics
- Perform analytical reviews of program cost structures
- Develop benchmark metrics including:
- Personnel as % of Operating Expenses
- Personnel Cost Ratio
- Cost per FTE
- Vacancy Lag Cost
- Provide summary insights and recommendations based on analysis
What you’ll need
- Enrolled in a four-year accredited college, university, or graduate program with good academic standing.
- Basic understanding of working in a hybrid environment, workplace ethics, and effective communication.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.
- Demonstrated strong organizational and planning abilities, with a track record of effectively coordinating, facilitating, and implementing projects in previous work or academic settings.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, along with the ability to analyze and synthesize information for effective problem-solving, are highly valued.
- A passion for nonprofit partnership in the community.
- Effectively model and demonstrate CFT’s core competencies, which include Collaboration, Impact and Problem Solving, Integrity and Accountability, Learning, and Internal and External Service.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship
