About The Company
The Delaware Entrepreneurial Center at Ohio Wesleyan's mission is to create a collaborative, innovative, and imaginative space that facilitates value creation and professional development. About the Role


Student Worker – Reporting & Writing Intern

Purpose/Objective of the Role: 

This intern will help to track OWU Connection-related research, internships, travel, and service; conduct email and in-person interviews; draft news articles and press releases, including headlines and photo captions; and (less frequently) take photographs. The ideal candidate will have demonstrable writing and editing skills, organizational abilities, and an interest in journalism/communication.

The student will obtain marketable experience in writing publication-ready news articles and press releases as well as enhanced skills in identifying news, preparing for and conducting interviews, researching/verifying facts for publication, proofreading, photography, and related skills.

Tasks & Responsibilities:

  • Using an Excel spreadsheet to track the status of student OWU Connection experiences and the status of reflection requests.
  • Researching and writing Q&A and other news articles about Ohio Wesleyan students and faculty, and, possibly, press releases about visiting lecturers and upcoming events.
  • Attending OWU events as a campus reporter – conducting interviews, generating online news articles, and, possibly, taking photos/videos.
  • Proofreading and fact-checking information prior to publication.

Qualifications:

  • Strong writing and grammar abilities.
  • Good organizational skills to track what OWU Connection stories are possible and which students may be available to share reflections.
  • Awareness of/basic knowledge of Associated Press Style. (Helpful, but not required.)

  • This internship will be beneficial for anyone interested in a communications field, from journalism to public/media relations to marketing. 
  • The intern will gain useful interviewing, writing, and editing experience.
