About the Role

Access Services  is seeking to hire a communicative and organized Access Foster Care and Adoption Intern to join our team in Bethlehem, PA. This is a hybrid position, to be completed in the Bethlehem office in person, as well as some hours to be completed remote, as directed by supervisor.   

The intern will learn about different aspects of the foster care system, which will include:  

  • Learning about needs of the children who are being referred into foster care. 
  • Building relationships and understanding with foster care families who open their homes to children. 
  • Learn about different counties that are involved in foster care.  
  • Communicate directly with staff who will be making the placement of children in foster care. 

Internship Hours: 

  • 20 hours/weekly is required. 
  • Internship hours are: 10am-5pm for 2 days weekly, and 9am-3pm for 1 day weekly. The specific days of the week will be determined between the supervisor and intern prior to the internship start date 

Qualifications of the Intern: 

  • The intern must be pursuing an Associate’s degree, or higher level of education.  
  • Mandated reporter training completed  
  • CPR training completed  

 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Experience:    

  • Knowledge of the child welfare system 
  • Interest in working with children 
  • Strong communication and organizational skills. 
  • Ability to be timely 
  • Possesses attention to detail 

 

Key Responsibilities of the Intern: 

  • Help with the referral process: 
  • Read through the referral to understand the needs of the child 
  • Contact foster families who are potential good matches with children to see if they are interested 
  • Submit foster care family home studies to the county 
  • Submit foster care placement paperwork to the county, and alert foster care team regarding placement details.

Required Clearances, to be completed before first day of internship, including (review by HR): 

  • FBI Clearance 
  • PA Criminal Clearance 
  • Child Abuse Clearance 
  • Physical 

* Detailed instructions and guidance regarding the clearance process will be provided directly by Human Resources upon selection. * 

 

Essential Working Conditions/Physical Demands  

  • Work in a standard office environment.   
  • Utilize desktop computer equipment daily.   
  • Able to lift or move items associated with sedentary work and light work (exert up to 20 lbs.)   

  

  • N/A as this is an unpaid internship
