ROLE OVERVIEW
The Learning & Development Summer Intern supports AES’s US Renewables Supply Chain organization by enhancing workforce skills and capabilities. This role focuses on conducting training needs analyses, developing role-based training strategies, creating a training plan, inventorying the existing training content and identifying gaps, and creating engaging learning content to support the adoption of supply chain tools and policies/procedures.
The intern will partner with Supply Chain, Digital, and Change Management teams to ensure AES Supply Chain team (e.g., buyers, inventory clerks, category managers) are equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to successfully adopt new systems and processes. This role plays a key part in driving user adoption, improving process consistency, and enabling operational excellence.
PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS
The primary job functions will include all or part of the following:
Conduct training needs analyses to identify skill gaps related to supply chain processes, systems (e.g. Supply Chain knowledge, SAP, other IT systems, etc.)
Develop structured, role-based training plans aligned with system deployments, process changes, and business priorities.
Design and develop engaging learning content (e.g., e-learning modules, SAP simulations, job aids, quick reference guides, and facilitator materials).
Support training deployment and adoption by coordinating sessions, tracking completion, and gathering feedback to continuously improve learning effectiveness.
Migrate training content between eLearning platform and online delivery software
RESPONSIBILITIES
Training Needs Analysis & Planning
Partner with Supply Chain stakeholders, SMEs, and Change Leads to identify training needs across roles (buyers, inventory clerks, category managers).
Analyze business processes, system usage (e.g., SAP Fiori apps), and performance metrics to identify capability gaps.
Recommend effective learning strategies (e.g., digital learning, blended learning, performance support tools) to enhance adoption and retention.
Develop role-based learning paths
Content Development & Instructional Design
Design and develop instructional materials using adult learning principles and instructional design methodologies
Create content in multiple formats, including e-learning modules, system simulations, videos, and job aids tailored to supply chain workflows.
Translate complex procurement, inventory, and logistics processes into clear, user-friendly training materials.
Maintain and update training content to reflect evolving systems, policies, and processes.
Migrate existing training content to new eLearning software
Training Delivery, Adoption & Evaluation
Support the delivery of training sessions (virtual and/or in-person), including facilitator support and learner engagement.
Track training completion and participation using LMS and reporting tools (e.g., WorkDay).
Collect and analyze learner feedback and performance data to assess training effectiveness.
Contribute to reporting on learning and adoption KPIs (e.g., completion rates, system usage, error reduction, user satisfaction).
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Instructional Design, Learning Technologies, Education, or a related field.
Strong interest in learning & development, digital transformation, and supply chain operations.
Familiarity with instructional design principles (e.g., ADDIE, adult learning theory).
Experience with e-learning authoring tools (e.g., WalkMe, Articulate Storyline, Captivate, etc.) or content creation tools is a plus.
Knowledge of change management principles (e.g., Prosci methodology) is a plus
Analytical mindset with ability to interpret data and translate insights into actionable learning solutions.
Strong communication and collaboration skills; ability to work with cross-functional teams.
