About The Company
At Slate, we’ve got one job: building a vehicle you’ll fall in love with. We believe that car buyers—not car companies—should call the shots. We like looking at a road, not a screen. We don’t like paying for stuff we don’t need.
We like picking out the stuff we do need. We think dings are badges, not blemishes. But we know not everyone likes what we like. So, we built you a Slate: you make it yours.
About the Role

ABOUT SLATE

At Slate, we’re building safe, reliable vehicles that people can afford, personalize and love—and doing it here in the USA as part of our commitment to reindustrialization. The spirit of DIY and customization runs throughout every element of a Slate, because people should have control over how their trucks look, feel, and represent them.

| WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We are seeking a Fastener Engineering Intern to do hands-on, real-world engineering work that directly contributes to the build quality of a major vehicle program. You will support fastener testing, torque data acquisition, and reporting, while collaborating with cross-functional teams including Design & Release and Manufacturing Engineering.

| WHAT YOU GET TO DO

Fastener Testing & Reporting

  • Coordinate testing with DREs and third-party labs, including parts tracking, fixturing, and running test equipment
  • Process test data and author lab reports and torque reports
  • Follow up with DREs to ensure accurate torque attributes are released in Windchill

Data & BOM Management

  • Build and maintain Excel-based BOM reports using tools such as VLOOKUP to consolidate data across sources
  • Create graphical status updates and support routine program reporting
  • Perform Windchill fastener audits, clean-up, and housekeeping; support recreating fastener prints on Slate title blocks

Manufacturing & Commonization Support

  • Partner with Manufacturing Quality and General Assembly teams on audit torque development and torque trace collection
  • Support root cause analysis (RCA) for build issues
  • Contribute to fastener commonization workshops and help develop a direct fastener supplier database

| WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TEAM

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field
  • Expected graduation between August 2026 and May 2029
  • Available to work full-time (40 hours/week)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Comfortable working in both laboratory and plant/vehicle environments
  • Experience in a shop or hands-on technical environment is a plus
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States on a permanent basis. We are unable to offer visa sponsorship at this time.
