Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medical Group (MAPMG) invites applications for an Accounting Intern to join our Financial Services Department. This position is a full-time, 40 hours per week, internship opportunity based out of our regional office located in Washington, D.C. with a hybrid work model. Please note, this position is ineligible for benefits. The summer internship program runs for about 12 weeks with a start date of May 29th, and end date of August 14th. Reporting to a member of the Finance team, the Accounting Intern supports the organization’s financial operations by assisting with key accounting functions and financial reporting activities. This role provides hands-on experience in general ledger accounting, financial reporting, and month-end close processes while contributing to the accuracy and maintenance of the organization’s financial records. The internship offers valuable exposure to accounting systems and financial processes within a healthcare organization.
You can expect to:
- Assist with the month-end close process by calculating and recording journal entries in the general ledger.
- Review and validate supporting documentation and source data for journal entries to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Support the preparation of internal financial reports such as the report of operations, trial balance, and balance sheet.
- Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations and compile supporting sub-ledger details for review.
- Assist with accounts payable processing within the OneLink system.
- Support the preparation of reports and materials used in month-end close meetings.
- Contribute to cash management activities, including preparing bank deposit entries and maintaining cash schedules.
- Maintain high standards of professionalism and quality in all work products and communications.
- Support organizational values by demonstrating integrity, collaboration, and strong working relationships.
- Adhere to compliance standards and the Principles of Responsibility (Kaiser Permanente’s Code of Conduct) by protecting confidential information, safeguarding organizational assets, and following applicable laws, policies, and procedures.
What is required:
- Must be a current student enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and accuracy when working with financial data.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Word.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work with financial data and reports.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively while meeting project deadlines.
- Familiarity with accounting software systems is a plus.
- Must be able to commute to the Washington D.C. regional office as needed
- Candidates must either currently live in or be willing to relocate to the Washington D.C. metropolitan area
- Must provide documentation of the Covid vaccine 2-dose series (or J&J 1-dose) prior to October 1, 2023, or documentation for 1-dose of the most current Covid vaccine (Pfizer or Moderna) as a condition of employment. Must provide documentation for the influenza vaccine as a condition of employment
The starting hourly rate for this position ranges from $20.00 to $25.00, which considers an applicant’s skills and qualifications, certain degrees and prior job experience, training, market data, and other relevant factors. Internships are non-exempt positions and are not eligible for employee benefits.
